Warriors: A New Beginning

Chapter 13

Sunrise woke up to a paw prodding her. She opened her eyes to see Moonshadow.

Her sister gave her a worried look. "I know what you're thinking, but trust me, I'm perfectly fine. You're thinking, 'I should never have let her take on that dog herself.' Aren't you?"

Sunrise nodded. "But how did you know?" She asked.

"Well...I can read minds, I just found that out yesterday."

We both have powers?

"I'm going hunting." Sunrise meowed as she walked up onto her paws.

"Bye, see you later," Moonshadow waved her tail, telling her that she understood. 

Sunrise enjoyed being in the forest; the trees smelled good and the chirping birds always made her happy. She scented a vole and dropped down into a hunting crouch. She sneaked up on it quietly but then a rustle in the leaves scared it off and it ran away.

Wow, that noise could have scared all the prey in the forest away!

It wasn't until she recognized who made the noise that Sunrise started to bristle. Her fur pricked up, she was ready to fight if she had to.

"Rowanfeather!" She snarled.

"I'm sorry...about what I've done to you." Rowanfeather seemed afraid as he looked at Sunrise.

"Yeah, like I believe you!" She sneered angrily. "Skyfeather, Tealstripe and probably a lot of other cats who were special to me; they're all dead! And why is that? It's because of you!" She yelled, frustrated, but really the only emotion she could feel right now was sadness.

"I'm so sorry...I never thought this would happen. I didn't kill any other cats, and I'm not the deputy anymore. Graystar chose Nightwing instead of me."

"Why did you come out here, then?"

Rowanfeather hesitated for a few moments. "Don't you see?"

Sunrise shook her head, her yellow eyes blazing with wonder, anger and sadness.

He sighed. "I-I came out here...because I couldn't lie to myself anymore. I'm in love with you. I always have been since I first met you. I don't know why I did everything I did. I'm really sorry...and I understand if you don't forgive me."

So this is who Blacknight was talking about! Rowanfeather is the other cat!

Sunrise thought for a few moments, then mewed, "No, I do forgive you. But I don't want a mate. Not yet, anyway."

Surprisingly Rowanfeather brightened up. "Really? I thought you would hate me forever!"

I did...until now.

"Can I join you?"

"Moonshadow won't be happy about it...but I'm okay with you joining." Rowanfeather dipped his head gratefully, then followed Sunrise back to their camp place.

"What is he doing here?" Hollydapple hissed furiously, obviously remembering what he did to her sister. She lunged at him quickly, but Sunrise blocked her. Like always, Hollydapple did no effect to Sunrise.

"What? I thought you hated him, too!"

Sunrise glared at her friend. "He apologized. And now he's joining the gang."

Hollydapple considered for a brief second, then added more calmly, "Fine."

Sunrise knew her sister would accept, even though she probably wouldn't trust Rowanfeather completely yet. To tell the truth, she didn't know if she did, either. That night, Sunrise had another dream.

"The other cat is Rowanfeather." Blacknight said.

"Rowanfeather?" Ghostfang repeated, snarling. "WHY WOULD YOU LET HIM TAKE HER AWAY FROM ME!?" Ghostfang yelled, clearly not happy. He leaped at Blacknight, who was much stronger than him.

"Stop, you can't kill me. I'm a StarClan cat. You can't have Sunrise as a mate, not that way."

"You don't know that! You realize that I'm not going to just give her up just like that!"

"As a matter of fact, I do know that."

"Then why?"

"Sunrise...she's your sister." Ghostfang stared at Blacknight with horror.

"WHAT? No...everything I've always wanted...I can never have it!"

Sunrise woke up. She had just discovered a strange but true fact, according to Blacknight: she had a brother.

And that brother was Ghostfang.
