Celestial Bodies

The wind hits my face as we drive. It's cool and crisp as we rush by. I close my eyes and relish in the world around me. The sun is beginning to set, filling the skies with the warm oranges and pinks that follow in the wake of the sun and its departure. I can't help but smile at the peace and serenity of this moment. Without knowing I drift off to sleep, small snores escaping my mouth.
I open my eyes as I feel you gently shaking my arm. You smile at me as you say, "We're here." We get out of the car, grabbing what we need for our small trek ahead. We walk down the boardwalk leading to the small beach at the end. I breathe in, smelling the salty air, a gentle breeze kissing my skin, the sky still lit by the sun as it disappears below the horizon.
We soon arrive at the small beach, waves crashing against the shore, moon bright and stars clearly visible across the night sky. We set up the blankets and pillows over the sand. As we lay there I feel at utter peace watching the stars, listening to the sound of your heart beating mixed with the waves, perfect. I've always loved the stars. They are so far away, each with its own story, yet they are so bright. Their light travelling thousands of miles before finally reaching us. We are made of the same things as these amazing celestial bodies, each us a star in our own right. A beauty that can only be seen at night, when the dark overtakes the light of the day. They non longer have a place to hide, they can be seen, they can shine. I slowly drift off to sleep as I stare up at the stars. Crash, crash, crash goes the waves as they deliver their constant beat. In and out, in and out, in and out, like my breathing which slows and evens out.
