Third Person
Kabuto checked up on Orochimaru.
It worried him that the man's health was continuously declining as time went by.
It was all he could do not to fall on his knees and start crying. They had to make this work.
"I'm not hungry," Orochimaru told him when he saw the tray being carried towards him. It broke Kabuto's heart to hear him say it.
"You're not well Lord Orochimaru, but I found the perfect solution for you. It is what we discussed."
He lifted a frail finger and beckoned for Kabuto to come closer to him, letting out a cough that rang out across the room.
Kabuto closed his eyes immediately Orochimaru's hand made contact with the side of his face.
"Tell me about it," Orochimaru said.
Kabuto thanked small mercies that the room was dark, he couldn't be able to hide his blush otherwise.
"Sasuke. We have him. With a little training, he'll become the perfect vessel for you."
"A stronger, younger body?"
"Yes, just like you deserve, Lord Orochimaru."
The candle flickered slightly while they talked. Another cough racked through Orochimaru and Kabuto winced like it hurt him to hear it.
"I'll get him ready for you Lord Orochimaru, you will finally leave this behind."
He admired the man on the bed with his entire being. The fact that he should be dead but was still alive because of only his willpower, it was amazing beyond words.
There was no one he would rather work under. No one measured up to Orochimaru for him.
"No Kabuto," Orochimaru said. "We'll do it together. He needs training."
Kabuto's heart surged. "Together then."
"I'll see him tomorrow, I should rest now."
"No, you should eat first, then rest, Lord Orochimaru."
"Still worried about me?"
Kabuto stood his ground. "I won't leave until you eat, just get something inside your system."
Orochimaru chuckled weakly. "Okay, I'll eat. For you."
Kabuto rubbed his neck and turned to go. "Good," he said.
"Do you mind feeding me?" The weak voice asked.
Kabuto was there in a heartbeat. Taking the tray from him and holding food to his mouth, his heart so full.
"I don't know the last time your food tasted like this, it's usually horrible," Orochimaru said bluntly.
"I was really happy when I cooked. I'm glad you like it."
Orochimaru ate everything, then finished the water Kabuto held out to him.
"You take such good care of me," Orochimaru laughed. "I can't help but need you."
Kabuto gasped then controlled himself. He said nothing.
Orochimaru laughed weakly. "Relax, I'm only half joking."
"Rest," Kabuto told him then walked towards the door.
Before he could pull the door open, the sick man behind him spoke.
"You've done well Kabuto, I am pleased." Orochimaru said before slowly lying back down again.
"I told him you'd be happy," Kabuto smirked and muttered under his breath.
