"Then I shall start the lesson. Serio, you just listen to the audio clip and study the book I told you. As for you all, turn to page 10, we will continue yesterday's lesson"

.

Nodding timidly, Miharu picks up the earphones and puts it in her ears before reaching out to get the instructed book from the pile. She was pleased to find that the title was presented on the cover with both embossed letters and Braille. She opened the book and turned the page until she could find her destination. Turning on the device, she starts the audio clip and reads the book.

(She was relieved to find out that the clip's voice blocked out any outside noise.)

Ever since she could remember, Miharu's knowledge was as thin as a paper. Anything she knew was taught by her mother before she passed away and from then on, her lessons were all by experiences alone. However, even if her mind could understand things, Miharu can't write, can't read and lacks speech's structure and vocabulary. So, for her to be able to study like this, it was like a dream come true. That was why she didn't complain when he dropped lesson after lesson, book after book, into her schedule.

She was happy to learn.

(She likes it. She likes the low strumming satisfaction when she follows the instruction without fussing. She likes his low, pleased voice when she gets something right.)

Watching her immersing into the book and voice clip, Ruka couldn't help but glance at the content of the book, curious about the difference between his and hers. He noted the bump spots and embossed letters, and that it was basic math, something he and the other could easily solve.

So, her education was...like this.

Furrowing his brows, Ruka wondered if it was his job to help her with this?

(Should he even help her? – a small part of his defense cracked.)

"...And therefore –"

Mikan listened as Jinno drone on, understanding only half of what he said. Glancing around, she took note of her classmate and smiled wryly.

Like I thought before, these troublemakers...They really pound down on the weak and wag their tails at the strong...

The crying face of Narumi-san's assistant popped up in her mind.

Despicable...

Tightening her hold on the pencil, Mikan mentally rants, fueled by agitation for most of her classmate's misbehavior.

Her thought was cut off when the world suddenly blurred and pain bloomed at the back of her head. Her neck had snapped forward, so fast that it ached.

Something hard had hit her – Mikan dazedly realized. Strangely, she didn't hear anything clattering when the object bounced off her head.

"What the...!" Words blurted out from her mouth once she regained her composure. With her hand clasped on the throbbing spot, she whipped around in shock. A few students giggled quietly under their breaths, eyes mocking her. Mikan bit her lip at the sight of them, wanting to give them a piece of her mind, especially the dark green haired girl among them.
