Flynn's fingers twisted into mine on our way out. His jacket was back around my shoulders and matching grins were spread across our faces. He handed me my helmet and we both hopped on. He revved the engine and soon we were out of there and slowly crawling along quiet roads.
I wasn't sure where I wanted to go, but I wanted to go back to that first night we kissed where we were outside under the stars.
"Do you think there is a camping place around here?" I asked Flynn.
"I saw a sign for one on the way into town actually. Is that where you want to go?" he asked, already turning around and heading in that direction.
"Yes please," I said drawing out the please.
"Your wish is my command," he replied.
Believe it or not but there actually was a campground just outside where the little town we had stopped in. Flynn took care of everything and managed to find a tent and some blankets for us to curl up in. We walked back through the woods for a bit trying to find a secluded spot before we stumbled upon a little ring of stones where someone else must have built a fire.
"Perfect," I said and Flynn agreed.
Flynn set up the tent and I built the fire, just like we did back at Huck's. He threw a blanket at me and I curled up in it, leaving a spot for him to join me beside me. When the tent was to his liking and the fire was glowing front of me, Flynn finally joined me.
His arm snuck around my back and pulled me against him. I tucked my legs up and got comfortable. I had a feeling like we weren't going to be leaving this spot for awhile.
"So I have a question," I said.
"So I have an answer," Flynn replied, in typical Flynn fashion.
"It might be a dumb question," I warned.
"There is never a dumb question," Flynn argued.
I laughed slightly and continued to watch the flames grow. I didn't want to look up to him, afraid that I might lose my nerve and chicken out on my question.
"Why didn't you kiss me until today?" I blurted out. There. I asked it.
Flynn hummed softly to a tune and fiddled with my fingers before he finally spoke. "I don't know...I guess I was nervous-"
"Nervous?" I cut him off, "Why would you be nervous? You're like..." I struggled to find the right word to describe him. To me he was that super cool rebel guy who never had trouble finding a girl to entertain him. "Like a pro."
"A pro. At what?" he scoffed. His face had moving shadows from the fire dancing across it and it made him look even more rugged and masculine.
"At this!" I said, holding up our interlocked hands for emphasis.
"Faith...I think you've got me confused with someone else," Flynn told me seriously. His green eyes were dark and they were looking right into mine.
"You mean you haven't had more than fifteen girlfriends in high school?" I asked. Come on. He was totally the type who dated a girl for maybe a month and then moved on. If I was wrong then this was about to be super awkward.
"I had one, Rachelle. Remember?" Flynn asked. He was looking at me like I was crazy and maybe I was.
"Only one?" I pressed.
"Only her. I loved her," he admitted, just like that first night he talked about her.
"And now?" I wondered. It was risky, probably rude if I thought about it, but I was curious. I wanted to know what he thought about her now.
