When there is only one person to choose

Avee waited impatiently for lee to come back. "5pm I would wait for you at your home," he had said, Avee recollected. At 5pm, her door bell rang. She quickly opened the door to find Pete standing before her.

"What are you doing here?" Avee angrily asked him.

"I got your address from Miss Zion. You left so abruptly. I want to speak to you." Pete said.

"Pete please leave for now. I have to talk to lee. You know how important lee is in my life..." Avee bluntly answered.

The door bell rang again. Avee opened the door, she realized it was too late for Pete to leave and for her to handle the situation.

"I am sure you missed me a lot Avee. I am so excited because I know you have a positive answer for me today. I.....," he lost his words as he saw pete standing inside.

"Pete? You are here? I wasn't expecting you. Is everything okay?"

Lee was clueless and so was Avee on what to say.

"Lee, I have settled everything with Avee while you were away. It was my fault that 6 months back I had misunderstood Avee but now everything is back to where it was 6 months back. I am so eternally grateful to you for taking care of her all this time." Pete said.

"What is going on avee," lee said. Completely confused and unable to process what pete had been saying.

As Avee told Lee about her feelings,in a minute he left without having said a word. Avee followed him while Pete held her hand

"Don't go Avee. Let him be"

"Leave my hand. I told you to let me handle this but you just needed to satisfy your ego and burn down your jealousy so much that you even forgot that lee was your best friend once."

She stormed out of the door.

"I forgot," peter mused. "You have no idea Avee what I did for him at a time when my heart was broken. I thought only about him, even then. But you never understood." Pete left.

Avee shouted after lee but lee left. He had no intention to hear anything from Avee

"One day. One day I have been away and she went back to him. Could she not see my love? All this time, every day, every moment I have seen her waiting for Pete yet I loved her. It broke me every day but I still loved her. How could she?" Lee cried himself to sleep that night.

Lee's phone had been continuously ringing. Thinking it was Avee, he was just turning to switch it off when he saw the screen flash the name of his lawyer

"Hello is this Mr. Lee?" The person on the other end enquired.

"Yes. Is there any problem? I mean calling me up after so many months
No. Its just that Mr. Pete's phone had not been reachable for the past few days. Will you please inform him that Kevinsky Estates is again up for sale."

"Up for sale what do you mean?" Lee asked.

"Mr. Pete had sold it to buy Jordan Industries but later he wanted to buy the Estates back again."

Lee hanged the phone.

Avee on the other hand kept on trying his phone but he didn't answer. She was worried about him. She went to his apartment but the security said he didn't want to meet with anybody. Avee left a message

"Lee, I don't know how it happened. You know me better than anyone. You know how much I have always loved Pete. I didn't want you to get hurt. I would want you to hear me out once atleast, just as a friend."

The next morning avee didn't know what to do. Facing lee seemed impossible to her, tendering a resignation would be cowardice.

"I cannot run way from the situation like I did 6 months back with Pete."

She went to the office.

Pete knew that all this years Lee had been the one person standing by his side. He had been a good friend. He knew that Lee liked Renyta but even back then he snatched her away from him. But this time pete was sure that Lee loved Avee. He knew that although he met and fell for Avee first but Lee loved her more. He knew he couldnot afford to lose the only bond he had.
