Chapter 23
Acting on my own instincts rather than the wolf's, I slap him across the face. It does not matter how fast his reflexes are, nothing prepared him for that.
Ethan staggers back a few steps, but recovers quicker than I would like.
Surprisingly, Ethan makes no attempt to strike back. Instead he starts laughing. "I like a girl with a little fire." The boy steps forward, a little too close for comfort. He cocks his head to the side in amusement, "Did you here that? It's the sound of your heart skipping a beat." he points out with his hand hover over the center of my chest. "So, either you are lying or you like me." Ethan says, a smirk curling onto his lips.
"Sorry, I don't date psychotic, blackmailing, werewolves." I'm not stupid. I know Ethan is distracting me from the real reason he's here. "What do you really want, because there's no way you came here just to flirt with me?" I ask.
He laughs. "Okay, you got me. I just wanted to make sure my little beta was doing her job."
I look away from the boy in disgust. "I'm not going to kill people, no matter how many times you threaten me. Kill everyone I love if that makes you feel more powerful, but I won't change my decision." I spit the words in his face.
"Killing them would be too easy. Sure I will eventually. My job wouldn't be very exciting if I didn't, but first I have to make you wish you had never crossed me."
Before I have time to figure out what Ethan means, he dibs me towards the ground in his strong embrace and kisses me on the lips. I try to pull away but he holds me up against the table. A gasp comes from behind us and Ethan finally lets go of me so I can witness Stiles standing in the doorway.
I struggle for breath and the words to tell Stiles it's not what it looks like, but I don't have the chance. He gives me a devastating look then storms out of the house.
"Oops, I guess I forgot to shut the door." Ethan says, shrugging.
"You did that on purpose, didn't you? You knew he was there this whole time! You knew I liked him!" I yell at the top of my lungs.
"Well, I just guessed on that last one, but it's nice to know I was right."
I rush towards the door to chase after Stiles, but Ethan is faster, slamming it shut and blocking off my only possible exit.
"You can't leave yet. We're not done talking." Ethan says, closing in on the gap between us.
I realize amongst the chaos of this situation that the boy is backing me right up against the kitchen counter- where several decent sized knives sit in their holders.
Now I have never had the desire to stab someone and the mere thought makes me want to puke, but desperate times call for desperate measures.
When Ethan is momentarily distracted I pull the biggest knife I can find from the holder, knowing it will only slow him down for a few minutes. He leans in to kiss me again, but I don't let him get that far. I lift the knife from behind my back and jab it towards his torso. Unfortunately I'm not fast enough and the boy easily swipes the knife from my hand before I can even get close.
"That wasn't very smart now was it?" Ethan chuckles, finding a way to move even closer to me. "You know if you didn't like me, you could have just said so."
With nothing left do to but stare at his twisted smile, I watch as Ethan angles the knife and stabs me directly in the stomach.
The pain is excruciating, but I find myself thinking of worse situations as he rips the cutlery from my gut. The metal clatters against the hardwood floor.
