The Graduation date had finally come, and, in a blink of an eye, Ellie was celebrating with her friends and their families.

It was true that all her friends came from upper class families, so spending the evening in the penthouse of the most amazing hotel of New York was expected.

And so, they drank and ate and laughed and danced.

Alex was there with his dad, who looked as proud as Howard did, and next to him was a pretty black-haired girl, intertwining his hands with Alex's once in a while.

Lori kept dancing around, and her little sister, who had the same red hair as her, copied the dance moves she made. Lori's parents were there, sitting on a fancy looking couch, drinking champagne.

Tom was talking with his father, a tall, stern looking man. He had his eyebrows furrowed and Ellie noticed that Tom's smile wasn't a genuine one.

And there was Howard, eating pie and smiling. He smiled a lot, Ellie noticed, and she wondered if his careless attitude and sometimes childish demeanor would disappear as he grew up.

If he ever grew up.

Ellie spent the days after graduating doing nothing.

She didn't have classes to attend, and her work wouldn't start for a week and a half.

So, she mostly spent her time in her living room, face hanging upside down from the couch, watching children's movies and tv shows because the adult ones did not have the appeal.

And come on, the just-released show about a cat chasing a rat was far more interesting than the political and romantic dramas, although Ellie knew she shouldn't say that statement out loud.

People were too judgmental with what others said, especially to what women said, or did, for that matter.

Oh, how much Ellie hated being underestimated and questioned in almost every aspect because she was born "the weak gender".

"The weak gender"... That statement was definitely an utter bullshit, thought Ellie.

How many men had asked her, when they noticed her seating in an Engineering class, if she had got confused. Because a woman, as one of those men had said, "couldn't possibly do math; well, only for buying clothes and food, of course."

That boy had got a punch in return.

Ellie's hand hurt for a week, because she didn't know how to throw a punch properly.

But it was oh so worth it, seeing as nobody dared to say more of those comments to her. At least not when she was around.

"It's hard being a woman in a male-dominated world," Lori had said, "but that just gives me more reasons to become the first judge in New York. I can imagine their faces when it happens..."

And the fact that Lori had been accepted into that job in the New York court made Ellie even more certain that her friend would make it.

And that gave her the confidence to be the best at her job, too.

Because Ellie was sure, and she wasn't being cocky because it was definitely a fact, that she was going to be the best Engineer the military could have.
