L shook his head snapping back from the memory he just had, and continued onto his work. I don't have time for silly thoughts like that, I have a job to do, L thought to himself.
However y/n couldn't stop thinking about when L and her made eye contact, they've done so before, many times, but somehow this time felt different. She felt stupid for getting so excited over something so little, but no matter how many times she tried to shake the thought it kept replaying in her head, coming to haunt her.
Flashback:
Y/n sat up against the trunk of a tree about 50 yards away from Wammy's House with a book sat snugly in her hands. She held the book close up to her head, the only sound heard was the birds chirping in a nearby tree. Her eyes were still glued to your book when a shadow hovered over her blocking her light.
"Y/n?"
Y/n's eyes darted up at the familiar voice, she folded the corner of the page she was on and closed her book, "Oh, hi L! Perfect timing, I actually wanted to show you something!"
L ignored her, his gaze was on a different place, y/n's book.
"What are you reading?" He asked.
"I found it in the library, it's called the Art of War," she said flipping the front of the book over to make sure she got the title right.
"Hm, I see, I thought I recognized it."
Y/n then remembered the reason as to why she wanted to see L, "Alright, I want to show you something I found yesterday!" Without thinking y/n reached her hand over and grabbed L's pointer finger, his skin was soft and cold.
L froze, stiff as a board. He was being dragged around by a singular finger as butterflies fluttered crazily inside him. His eye twitched, and he had no idea what to do so he just let y/n drag him around while he died inside.
it was the first time y/n had sort of held his hand. However y/n was unaware of what she was doing until they were almost half way to their destination. She had been so thrilled about what she was going to show her best friend that she didn't notice what she was doing.
Y/n's eyes fell to where she was holding L while she was still darting toward the woods, her e/c eyes widened at the sight of their skin touching. It's fine were young this doesn't mean anything, she thought to herself focusing her eyes back in front of her. Y/n's fingers still wrapped around L's index finger.
Both of their faces glowed a bright crimson red, as the two of them tried desperately to ignore the butterflies fluttering violently in the pit of their stomachs. Y/n still stared straight ahead avoiding looking back at L. She stopped running once she was near the center of the forest.
"Were almost here, it's just around that tree," she blurted.
L nodded looking at the large tree that stood in front of him, It was extremely tall, it looked to be 10 feet high, and its trunk was very wide around. Y/n started to walk towards the large tree and L followed her close behind. She lead him through a few bushes, and pushed one to the side revealing a beautiful pond. It had a small waterfall oozing water down into a small pit of crystal clear water. Slabs of grey rock outlined the pit of water and lily pads floated snuggly on top of it. Moss covered a few of the rocks scattered around the pond, and the shrubs and flowers around the area glowed vibrantly. The tree's branches stretched high over the pond creating a beautiful canopy, and small rays of sunlight peaked through the tree's canopy creating a heaven like sight.
"I've never seen anything like this," L said admiring the sight, still allowing y/n to hold his index finger.
"yeah," y/n whispered under her breath in awe, "I've been here before, yet it still feels like I never have. It's that amazing." She turned to L looking into his eyes, he felt you staring at him so he turned and was met by a cheeky smile. L smiled back and felt his cheeks turn red again.
"Thank you," he whispered quietly.
"Don't thank me," y/n gushed as her grin grew wider.
~~~
L sat down on a smooth rock with his knees to his chest looking down at a orange goldfish that swam around near the shore of the pond. Y/n then laid down a few inches away from L as she stroked the grass she was laying under with her fingertips. They stayed like that for several minutes until y/n broke the silence.
"Do you think we'll always be together," y/n asked him quietly, fiddling with her hands.
"Yes, a person can be physically gone, but never mentally, we will always the memory of each other. As sappy as it sounds, and I don't think I'll ever forget you."
"Me too, me too," she reassured herself, taking her eyes off her hands and onto L giving him a sad smile.
Flashback end:
Y/n smiled at the memory that just played into her head, remembering the day perfectly. The task force was probably staring at her now because of the large smile that suddenly appeared on her face, but y/n didn't care. She was enjoying the moment and that's all that mattered.
Do I like L? No, why would I even consider that thought, were just friends, y/n thought in confusion. Deep down y/n really enjoyed all the memories flooding her head on this day, but she could never admit the truth.
