I follow the crunch of twigs. The crunching stops. The girl pops up in front of me and I almost fall on top of her. She holds my arms and smiles.
"Hi." She let's go of my arms and sits down on the ground.
"Hi?" I don't know what to say. I look at her and she looks at the ground.
"Why did you help me?" She looks up at me intently and stands up. She'll be the perfect height for me.
"Ummm... Well I couldn't not help you. You were right there." I mumble to myself a little. She smiles.
"Well anyway, I'm Kowa." Kowa smiles at me widely. Her name is so beautiful. It matches her completely.
"Ummm Kowa, how do you...umm... spell that?"
"It's K-O-W-A." Kowa laughs and dimples form. Her long brown hair moves when she laughs.
I smile at her. "I'm Darren."
Kowa's eyes widen and she looks at me. "That's beautiful." She smiles at me.
Loud sirens interrupt. I look at my house through the thick trees. I can see a tint on my aunt's white house. A few policemen run past her house. They reach the two men and inspect the surroundings. They haul the two men and take them to their car.
"Umm Kowa. Do you think...we'll get into trouble?" I look at her but she's looking at a tree.
"No. They'll just think we're mental." Kowa sighs and stares at the policemen. I watch her carefully. She looks through the trees.
"Come on. Let's go." Kowa grabs my hand and urges me to walk.
"Wait. Why?"
"The police. They're coming and they're trying to catch me. They have been looking for me for the past week. And they're walking to the woods."
Kowa starts to run but makes no sound. I follow after her. Her steps are light and she leads me through the woods.
She looks around for the police and walks to the left. She disappears. I look to the left and see a cave with vines hanging from it everywhere. "Uhhh. Kowa?" A hand grabs me and I shriek.
"Yes Darren?" I sigh a breath of relief. It's dark. Really dark. I hear the sound of wood to wood and the world lights up instantly. Kowa places a candle down in a glass bowl.
The cave is filled with supplies. In one corner, there is a thick pile of blankets and pillows. In another corner, tons of food are stationed. The opening to the cave is blocked by a thick layer of vines.
"Kowa. Why are you staying here?" I look at the food and notice many cans.
"Well I...ummm..well...was recently kicked out of my home." Kowa smiles at me wearily.
I look into her eyes. She stares right back at me. I smile and she grabs a blanket. Kowa stands up and drapes it over the floor. "Sit on this." She sits down and pats next to her.
I walk over to her and sit down. I start to ask her something but loud shouts interrupt. Kowa grabs the candle and blows it out quickly. The blackness quickly meets me. I here footsteps. Then someone grabs me from ahead and the last thing I hear is a loud, high pitched scream.
