Veronica was startled out of reading as the library doors were slammed open. Raven, the boy from down the street, rushed in looking rather panicked. He skittered over to the "Magic and the Arts" aisle, and practically threw himself in the chair next to Veronica.
"I NEED YOUR HELP." He stuttered, slamming a large book simply titled 'Curses' on the table, (Promptly being shushed by the librarian forcausing a scene.)
"O-of course, uhm.. what is it..?" Veronica pleaded. It was her duty to help, and the matter at hand seemed serious. Raven seemed to take a deep breath as he fingered through the book he produced.
"So you know that kid Six right? The one who bit me? The scar is doing something weird and I need to make it stop."
"Uh, that sounds more medical than magical-"
"YOU DON'T UNDERSTAND. LOOK." The boy peeled his baggy hoodie down to show the scar.
OH SHIT.
Nome's bite.
Nomes are magical creatures by nature. Created by a curse many ages ago, the Nomes were seen as just any other animal to the common folk. But they aren't. There are a few ways the curse can spread; one, by a powerful magick user's spell directly on the person (Rare.) Or a recently-turned Nome can spread the curse by just being around a human. (Most common.)
But perhaps the rarest of all is Nome's Bite. A human, cursed with Hunger (more on that later) by birth, blood or bad luck, bites a human. Then the victim will slowly, painfully transform into a Nome. Humanity, a chance at a normal life, stripped away to be sold as illegal pets or be run over by a car or served in exotic dishes.
And that means Six was cursed.
"W- We need to talk to my mom. NOW."
