Raven awoke to the sound of gunshots and screaming.
Outside his house.
/Getting closer./Diving under his blankets, trambling like the last leaf on a branch in a snowstorm, Raven covered his ears with his hands; nearly clawing some of his hair out. There was only one family- one person- capable of such a racket.
/Six./ Yet another reason to hate her, he thought.
It didn't occur to Raven until the front door was pounding that she might be the victim in this situation, not the villain.
But why would her dad try to kill his own daughter..?
Raven jumped out of bed, despite the rational part of his brain screaming at him to hide, hide, hide and stay safe. But as the door opened, that little voice silenced."Raveniknowyouhatemebutireallyneedyourhelp-" Six blurted, falling into the corridor with Mono in tow.
"Uh, does it have anything to do with the gunshots??" Raven questioned, shutting and locking the door behind them... And with that Six burst into tears, collapsing into Mono's arms.
"Y-yeah, uh--"
"We can continue talking somewhere that the crazed gunman WON'T kill us, please??" Raven interupted Mono, guiding them somewhere only he knew.
Somewhere safe. Somewhere he visited often.
Gran would keep them all safe.
Raven hadn't felt this much adrenaline coursing through his veins in years. Why was he helping SIX, of all people?? She was the one who cursed him- the infection had spread to his elbow by now! And Mono didn't seem to be any better- maybe it was just his protective nature, or a spur-of-the-moment decision; either way, the three of them were running full-speed-ahead through the forest. Normally, with bare feet it would sting like hell, but adrenaline is one hell of a drug. Sweat dripped down Raven's brow as he guided Six and Mono to the lake where his grandma lived, down where Raven had spent so much of his life with someone he truly loved.
Even if they weren't very human anymore.
I guess the same could be said for Raven, too.
Skidding to the end of the dock, raven gestured for Six and Mono to stay there. Then, taking the biggest of breaths, the boy dove into the crystal-clear water frosted with moonlight. The cold stung every limb but Raven couldn't care less at this point, as his lungs gave out Raven finally found the form of his mother's mother guiding him to the surface.
Sitting on her hand, Raven explained the details once he coughed out all the liquid that had built up in his lungs. his grandmother seemed to understand as she scooped up the other two kids.
"UH- care to esplain????" Mono questioned, holding Six.
"Uh, guys, meet my grandma. She'll keep us safe for now."
