"No. Absolutely NO WAY i'm going in there; i've helped you enough, i'm going H-O-M-E HOME ." Raven protested, stepping away from the schoolyard. Veronica nodded, and said something about the both of them already having too much on their plate, and they both shared a look as if they knew something Six and Mono didn't.
"It's alright.. good luck, you two." Mono said, nodding at the pair before turning back to Six. She hadn't uttered a word since the incident in the forest, which was understandable. Mono could just go home now, his absence in the previous day was probably enough to make his dad understand that he wasn't a kid anymore. But Six.... They didn't have a home to go to anymore. It was them against the world.
And Mono would stop for nothing until Six felt safe again.
The schoolyard was dark in the glistening twilight, lines blurring under the misty haze of the weather. Abandoned toys littered the playground, causing Mono to trip an embarrasing amount of times. He wished he brought shoes. And warmer clothes. It was only in this moment that Mono remembered he was still in his pajamas, silently jealous of Six's raincoat.
A rope of bedsheets, similar in parallel to the one Mono had used to escape his own dwelling- was it hours ago, or days? He couldn't remember as the minutes, seconds, all time blurred together- strung solumnly from one high window quiet as a hanged man. Something arcane compelled to climb, staticky hands and feet one after another a glimmer of yellow following behind. Clammy fingers a summerstorm await, as smoke filled his vision and rot entered his lungs in the school of naught. Clattering teeth and hopeful tugging for his friend to land beside him, the two intertwine digits and begin exploration.
The two children had wandered around for a little while- the school seemed abandoned, many doors locked and the rooms that were open empty of any person in sight, the closest thing Mono could find was a doll that looked too much like himself for comfort. he'd simply laughed it off, but he could tell Six could tell that it freaked him out. Now that he thought about it, there were a lot of dolls here. Maybe the other kids had made them, and were strewn about for some reason? see, that one's even standing up, Mono thought to himself.
Uuuuntil it moved.
Then it talked, the golden cracks in his face and silver glasses glistening in the dim artificial light.
"How did you get here?"
