Part 12

Eddie Pov

I hold the ringing phone up to my ear and listen to the dial tone. 

"Hello?" Grant picks up. 

"Hey," I say.

"Eddie?" 

"Yeah."

"Is anything wrong?"

"No, I was just wondering how you're doing now."

"I'm fine. But I did it. I finally broke up with her."

"Finally? How long have you been thinking about it?"

"I don't know. The last time I slept over."

"That long? What sparked it?"

Grant Pov

"What sparked it?" Eddie asks me, and my body freezes. I can't tell him the real reason, because that would f*ck everything up. But I don't have any other reason.

"Uh," I start. "We just weren't really working out anymore and the fights were getting more and more intense."

"Understandable," Eddie says. 

"I'm sorry, it got a little awkward," I say. "I didn't think it would get that intense."

"I don't think anyone could have expected that," Eddie says. "Sam is hanging out with Paige now. So I'll probably get all the details of how she's feeling. I'll pass them on to you if you would like."

"Why do I need to know how she's feeling? I need to focus on my own feelings," I say. 

"Well, tell me if you do want to know. I'm sure I'll hear all about it tomorrow morning and then I'll have to excuse myself to 'record'. So you're really ok?"

"Yeah."

"I mean, she was your long time girlfriend. Are you sure?"

"Yes. I am."

"You moved out here for her though."

"No. I didn't."

"What?"

"I mean she was part of the reason, but I moved here to be closer to you. It was just luck that she also lived around here."

"You moved out here for me?"

"We never saw each other otherwise."

"You're right."

"But I should probably get to bed. Long day."

"Yeah. I'll let you go. I just wanted to see how you were doing."

"Thanks Eddie. Good night," I say.

"Night," he says and then hangs up. I yawn and make my way to the bedroom. I fall onto the bed and taken away to sleep almost immediately.
