Grant Pov

Today is the day. I am going to break up with her. In my own house. She's coming over for dinner and I'm going to have to tell her. It's going to be hell having to watch her face as it changes from being happy. To sad. To angry. To screaming everything out at me. I lay the silverware out by the plates. The timer for the food in the oven goes off. I find the oven mitts and pull the food out of the oven. I set it down on the hot pad on the counter. I pour some wine into 2 wine glasses and put them next to our seats. I pour a little more in mine and leave the wine out on the counter because I know that I'll be drinking more of it as the night goes on. I hear a knock on the door.

"Coming!" I shout. I quickly move the dish onto the table and take off my apron. I throw it somewhere on a chair in the living room on my way to the front door. I open it and Eddie and Sam are standing there. Along with Paige. "Hey honey. What are they doing here?" Shit shit shit. This is not how this was supposed to go.

"Uh, I invited them? I thought this would be fun as a double date," Paige says.

"Oh, uh, ok," I say. "I'll just have to get 2 more place settings out and some more glasses. Please come in. You can wait in the living room while I finish stuff up."

"Ok, thank you for inviting us," Sam says. I force a smile.

"No problem," I force out. I walk back to the kitchen and mutter to myself. "Did she know? Did she f*cking know and that's why she invited them? I can't f*cking do it if they're here."

"What the hell are you talking about?" I turn around quickly and see Eddie standing there.

"What?" I ask.

"You were just muttering something to yourself. What were you talking about?" Eddie asks.

"Uh," I say. Should I tell him? I'm not good at lying. Shit shit shit. "Come with me." I drag him to the kitchen.

"What the hell is going on?" Eddie asks.

"I'm breaking up with Paige," I say.

"What? You guys are great together!" Eddie says.

"Shhh!" I whisper yell.

"Why the hell are you doing that?" Eddie asks.

"I..." I start. "Like someone else."

"Who? Somebody better than her?" Eddie asks.

"Yeah. Way better," I say.

"How much better can she know you than Paige?" Eddie asks. F*ck. Well, here goes nothing.

"It's not a she," I say, looking down at my feet.

"What the hell do you mean?" Eddie asks.

"Eddie. It's not a girl I'm attracted to," I say.

"What-" Eddie starts. "Oh."

"Yeah," I say. "Please don't hate me."

"How can I hate you?" Eddie asks. "You're a person too. And if you're gay, so be it."

"I'm not gay," I say.

"I know, it's hard to get used to saying," Eddie says.

"I'm not. I'm bi," I say.

"Oh. I think that might make it worse for Paige," Eddie says.

"Yeah. It also doesn't help that she's very homophobic," I say.

"Shit. Do you want us to get out of here?" Eddie asks.

"No, could you just warn Sam? I'd rather there be an audience. I wanted to do it at a restaurant but I didn't need fans seeing it and get some backlash. I can't really afford that," I say.

"Got it. Should I help you with dinner now?" Eddie asks.

"Yeah," I say. He grabs down 2 more wine glasses and fills them up. I get 2 more plates and silverware out.

"So, who is it?" Eddie asks.

"Who's what?" I ask.

"The guy you're attracted to," Eddie says.

"Oh, uh. You wouldn't know him," I lie.

"Bullshit. At least tell me about him," Eddie says.

"Well, he was dark hair and brown eyes. And he has an amazing laugh with great sense of humor," I say. That seems like just enough. Enough to satisfy him without giving it away. He doesn't need to know. At least not yet.

"Seems like a good guy," Eddie says.

"Yeah, he is," I say. I look over at Eddie and give him a small smile. "Now. Lets do this."
