Being a feminist isn't what most people think
It's not about man hating or slut shaming
It's simply about equality

Being a feminist is fighting
Fighting for the equality everyone deserves

America thinks we've got gender equality in the bag. Done.
Finished.
That we don't need feminists anymore

But when did believing in equality become an outdated thing?
Or a thing at all?
Equality is a right

Yes, I am a feminist
I am a feminist because everything I do speaks for my sex life
If I choose to cover up in a prude
If I show too much skin I'm a slut

I'm a feminist because my school tells me to be their version of myself
Because God forbid my skirt be too short and I make all the boys fail.
Because God forbid we express ourself's in the way we want because our school system wants to tame our bodies.

I am a feminist because nothing
Justifies rape. Nothing.
Not the clothes I wear
Not the number of drinks I have
And not me wanting to look good for a night out.

There is no excuse for a lack of self control.

I'm a feminist because guys have the same hearts women have
They feel the same feeling we feel
They shouldn't have to hide behind a mask of masculinity
While hiding who he really is

I'm a feminist because for every expectation for girls we have to opposite expectations for guys

When will we learn that sexes don't come with a hand manual

I am a feminist, and I will not be ignored.
