Error just wanted to stay where he was forever. He didn't know why, but he felt content and comfortable like this, a feeling of warmth against his body and in his arms. He was half conscious of it, cuddling just a bit closer to the source of the pressure and the heat, leaning his head against the 'object' on his shoulder, just enjoying this contact. When he felt it breath.. He remembered what was in his hold.
Ink.
Error cracked his eyes open, blushing at how close Ink was, leaning into him with his head on his shoulder and his chest against Error's. The glitch couldn't help but rub the others back, smiling at him and keeping him close, loving the soft sound of his even breathing. It was amazing how the two had become this close. Error could hold him close like this with no protests from his phobia or glitching... He trusted Ink. And from the looks of it, Ink trusted him, too.
The glitch rubbed his skull gently to help the artist sleep, his gaze soft with part of his face hidden in the top of the scarf. Seeing Ink's smile caused him to relax even more, not noticing how soft he was being at the moment.
" Ew. You two reek of positivity." Came an all too familiar voice. Error immediately stiffened, glitching a bit and mindlessly pulling Ink closer protectively.
" What do you want, Nightmare?" He practically growled, looking over at him angrily.
The goopy skeleton chuckled, " Relax. I'm not here to try and turn any of this into negativity. It'd be a waste of time for all of us-"
" Are you here because of Dream again?" Error cut him off, causing the other to roll his eyelight, one of his tendrils curling and uncurling idly, soon reaching over to the glitch, his form still a good distance away.
" No, actually, I'm here on my own accord. Or, rather, doing a favor." He dropped something into Error's hand, turning to walk away as the glitch glanced down at it.
That was Ink's handwriting. On another envelope.
" Nightmare, wh-" Error glanced up, receiving nothing but a short flick of his hand before going through his portal. No explanation...? Nightmare may have just been asked to pass on a message from Sci (from Ink previously) to Error for the sake of Sci staying at work, but also... Error looked down at the sleeping artist, gently curled into him and resting. The glitch lifted a hand, tracing his cheek with the back of his fingers before rubbing it with his thumb, soon sighing and just holding him gently as he flicked the letter open.
Error really wished Ink had just told him all of this to his face rather then through a piece of paper.
Before he knew it, his eyes softened on the carefully written sentences, starting to read.
" Error. If you're reading this, then Nightmare or Sci or someone must have delivered it to you per my request...
I know you're probably tired of the letters, of my unspilt secrets now being spilt onto paper that you don't have the slightest clue of when it was written or when it was folded into the envelope.
But before I keep rambling, I want to tell you something. Something more then I've mentioned in the other letter in our spot.
Error... you were the first person I ever spoke to after leaving ___Tale... You were my first friend, even if we ended up as enemies later on.
Back then it was harder to talk to you... I could tell you were suffering and I could also tell that you needed someone... but back then... I didn't realize any of this- nor did I know how to help. I was naive and was still learning about emotions with Dream (before Blue came along)... I was more insensitive, and now I realize just how much I hurt you.
But I genuinely believe that I've made up for that at least a little.
Do you remember after the first truce...? The one that got broken...?
I remember you were so upset. So angry and frustrated. We had come so close to being done with this war and finally living in peace... finding a middle ground to keep the multiverse in balance. And then it was ruined.
...I know what he did to you, Error...
Maybe one day I'll be able to explain how, but for now, just trust me.
Please. I know you're stubborn and you're probably just staying with me right now (if I've survived) but please go talk to Sci.
Maybe you two can work together.
Your friend,
Squid "Error's soul ached in his chest as his glitches flickered around him, static escaping his body as he felt tears sting the corners of his eyes. He quickly wiped them away, looking down at Ink and folding the letter up again, putting it into the envelope before sighing and nodding, "...when you wake up, we'll go..." He mumbled to himself, cuddling more with the unconscious artist as he waited.
[ I apologize for this chapter being shorter then the others. Chapter 12 has a lot to unpack pertaining to the letter in this one, so I wanted to save any details of it for that, since I want Ch. 12 to come out good.
Also, I'd like to say thank you so much for the amount of support this story has gotten. I've worked pretty hard on it, and I'm glad people are enjoying it :) And yes, I do see all the comments- I just wish I could like them lol, since responses are difficult xD
I will continue to upload on here, posting chapters on my Instagram and possibly my Twitter, too. My link tree is in my bio on here, so if you'd like to support me on my other accounts, feel free to do so.
With that out of the way, enjoy :) ]
