Three years ago, I lost two of the most important people in my life. He left to give himself a better life. And she had no choice.
"Katniss! Open the door, Katniss. It's cold out here, hellllooo!", I hear Prim yell from the other side of the door. As soon as I unlock the car, she gets in with a huff.
"Did you not hear me? What's wrong?"
"Uhm, no. I'm sorry, I was lost in thought, little duck."
"Okay then, anyways, I got my report card back! I got all A's and 1 B!", She says as she grabs it out of her bag and hands it to me. I look over it and I'm impressed by how smart she is, just like our mom. I glanced at her and I find her staring at me with a huge grin.
"Well, it looks like a special trip to the bakery is in order!", I try to put on a happy face as I say that, for her.
~
The bell rings as we walk into the bakery and a deep voice speaks up to welcome us.
"Welcome to Mellark Bakery! Anything special I can get you?", Who I assume to be Rye says, as he turns the corner.
"Wow, if it isn't Katniss Everdeen and little Prim! What's the occasion for y'all to come see ol' Rye?"
Before I can even say hello, Prim practically shouts, "I got my report card today and my grades were so good that Katniss couldn't even resist taking me to get a something sweet!"
"Remember your manners, Prim.", I scold as she slowly backs away and sheepishly goes into the next isle.
"Same old Katniss! Y'know, you shouldn't be so hard on her. She was just excited, I understand." Rye states. Maybe I was a little too harsh on her, I guess I'll let her get 2 things today.
Changing the subject, I asked, "So, How is your family been?"
"Oh, please! I know this is your round about way of asking how Peeta is doing. He is doing good, just homesick."
I try not blush, "If I wanted to know how Peeta was, I would've just asked." He just gives me this 'who do you think you're fooling' looking.
"Katniss!", Prim exclaims, " They just put out fresh cheese buns!", while she is dragging me to go see them.

"Peeta, I can't have any of those! I'm on a diet!", I glare at him while gesturing to the still steaming cheese buns that he laid out on the coffee table in front of me.
"C'mon Kat, you know you want one! Just splurge this one time!", he knows they are my weakness, jerk.
"Damn you, Peeta .", I say as I snatch one from the tray and sank my teeth into it's cheesy goodness.
"I knew you couldn't resist my buns!", He chuckles as he sinks into his couch.

I find my way back to reality to find Prim just staring up at me, "so, is that a no then?"
"It's not, just hurry up. I still have to make dinner and you still have homework.", She just sighs. I make my way to the check out and find Rye there counting money.
"Closing up shop?"
"Oh, yeah. Since it's the holidays, we like to close early.", He says matter of factually. "That reminds me, we are coming out with some holiday themed sweets and I'm making something Prim would like, so y'all should stop by sometime next week and pick some up."
"Well, I don't know. We really can't afford it, nowadays."
|"Katniss, you should know me well enough to know that I don't want your money." Before I can respond, Prim puts two slices of chocolate cake of the counter, "one slice for you and one slice for me!" I pay for the slices of cake and as we are walking out I call out to Rye, "We'll try and stop by next week, thanks."
I hear him yell back, "Please come back next week, you two are always welcome!"
"What did Rye mean about us coming back next week?", Prim questions me. I really wish he didn't say that in front of Prim because now she is going to remind the whole about going there. Great!
"Oh, they are just making some special hoilday treats and Rye thought you would like some, thats all.",
Prim quickly replies, "Well, that gives me an excuse to make you bring me back!", I just groan as I start the car and start heading home.
