He kept his focus, keen on blowing the brains out of this beast. David was just about to pull the trigger when he realised that it was actually a human being. And it was not just any human being, but the man who had given him a ride before they fell victim to Viktor’s advances, just like they’re many predecessors.
David cursed Viktor, but what difference could one curse make. If only it could bring all those dead back to life, if only...

If it weren’t for the abnormally long beard i wouldn’t have recognised him. He was bruised all over and god he reeked “Oh, buddy are you ok?” is all that could come out my mouth. I could’ve offered him water or given him a hand but no, I asked him if he was ok even though a blind person could tell that he was not ok, not by a long shot. Finally I outstretched my hand in support of the pitying sight that was now on its knees.

David gave him a hand and some water. Things quickly turned awkward as David never asked for the man’s name. He was eventually going to ask so why not now, “This may sound a bit silly, but i never got your name” he said as the man handed the plastic bottle of water back to him.
“Not at all laddie, you saved my life today” he started “And it’s my fault, i should’ve introduced myself when we first met, it’s Andy.......Andy Hendricks” he concluded.David looked at him in awe, half listening, simply astounded by what a simple drink of the precious liquid could do. His face looked radiant again, his cheeks full again, his beard shone in the winter sun’s rays and dare he say it, he looked happy again. “Ok Mr. Hendricks” David said as i got up “Night will fall soon, we better make ground fast.”
“Certainly” he simply said as he got up too.
“Good, we’ll” David couldn’t finish as he was interrupted.
“Whoa laddie, is that a Truedom S14!” he shouted quite enthusiastically pointing at David’s glock.
Like any man, David couldn’t suppress the sense of pride that took over him.

“Why, indeed it is” I brimmed “She can do just about anything these modern pistols can, and more” I couldn’t help brag about my baby.
“Can I touch it” he now looked like a child begging for candy. Truth be told, i was never really a sharer. Even as a kid the other kids despised me for that nasty attribute. And I can’t say that it had died over the years. So i looked to change the subject.
“So Andy?” I began
“Yes”
“What happened back there, you know with the three men back then”
Although he was a bit far from me, I could see that the topic I brought up made him cringe bit, but I pressed on, I had to know how he had come out of that altercation in one piece. I simply had to.

“So about that glock, may I touch it?” Andy cleverly dodged the question with one of his own and David was losing more and more patience.
“If I give it to you, will you just tell me already” he replied in a glassy tone as he handed it to him.“Gee, thanks laddie” he paused and slowly pointed the firearm towards the owner “And to answer your question...... How did I get away? Well, simple because Iwas with them. Now freeze fool!”
Things for David had moved fast, too fast. Just over an hour ago, he was aiming toward a ‘bear’ and now that same ‘bear’ was holding him at gunpoint. Never lend that weapon to anyone his dad’s words rang in his ears. Shit!
