The bustling streets of Asgard, full of life and the joyous laughter of people. You could hear it all, even from the gateway just out the main city. Thor breathed in the crisp air and nodded triumphantly, "Home at last."
"Yes, finally," I looked down at myself and cringed. I was still wearing my Midgardian clothing. Surely I would have to change before father saw me.
"Come!" Thor grabbed my hand and dragged me along, "Everyone will be so elated to see us. And I'm sure Valkyrie has missed you as well."
"Thor—Brother—," my feet struggled to keep in time with his. "Brother, I can walk myself you know."
With that, he swept me off my feet and threw me over his shoulder. "Oh my gods, Thor!" I beat my fists against his back, "Put me down, you colossal freak!"
"Yes, brother. Why not put her down?"
I immediately stopped thrashing, and Thor quickly set me on my feet. We had just reached the outer gates into the city when I saw him. Loki, sitting slouched as if he had been waiting the whole time. He was younger than the last time I had laid eyes on him.
I swallowed, hard. My palms had begun to sweat, and I felt almost nauseous under his gaze.
"What are you doing here, brother?" Thor seemed rather surprised to see the slim prince.
Loki pursed his lips, standing up as he strode his way over, "What? I heard you two would be returning, so I thought I would be the first to welcome you both."
"How peculiar of you brother, frankly I never expected you to be the type—"
"Enough Thor," I slapped him hard against the chest, wincing slightly as my hand collided with the cold metal of his breastplate.
Loki gave him a sour look before turning his gaze to me. I locked eyes with him and flinched ever so slightly. He eyed me up and down before lifting his chin, "Odin will not be pleased to see you dressed in such, atrocious, clothing."
"Brother!"
"What?" Loki scoffed in Thor's direction, "I am simply stating the obvious. We all know the king does not exactly favor the Midgardian look."
I looked down at myself, and then back at him. "I will make sure to change, as soon as we reach the palace..."
Thor frowned, pushing his way past to make his way into the city. I stood frozen in place, nervously rolling back on my kneels. Loki noticed my sudden change in demeanor and furrowed his brow, "What's your problem?"
I missed you, I cried over you, and here you are...alive again!
I held my tongue, deciding it'd be best not to spill my heart out. "N-Nothing..." I cleared my throat, "It's nice to see you again."
He chewed the inside of his cheek, nodding slowly, "It is...good to you, as well."
"I'm sorry about Thor's attitude."
"No, it's okay. I am well aware of his inflated ego."
I snickered slightly, finally smiling softly. I took small steps towards him, stopping face to face with the god. "So, how have you been?"
"I've certainly been better," Loki avoided my gaze, his arms folded behind his back.
We fell into a stiff silence, mostly on my end. I frankly had no idea what to say. Loki just stood still, his breathing slow, "Are you just going to stand here?"
"N-No," I looked down between us.
"Oh, am I in your way?" His tone had a hint of sarcasm, his head slowly tilting to the side.
