[Orihime's POV]
"I think we should head this way!" I exclaimed, pointing towards the numerous buildings ahead. I could feel the elevated spiritual pressures of Ichigo and Chad from where I now stood, eighty percent sure they had encountered soul reapers.
So why was it me and Uryu haven't? That would change in a heartbeat as an unfamilar voice spoke, his tone alone making the blood inside my veins run cold.
"S-subaki!" I gasped out, stumbling away from the man who despite his broad appearance was also light on his feet. My attack though aimed at the man had no effect, instead, he deflected it like Subaki was a mere bug.
Subaki screamed in pain, reacting in just enough time to capture the little man.
"You stupid girl! What were you thinking hesitating like that?!" He screeched, his little form curled up in pain.
"Subaki..." I muttered sadly, allowing him to return to one of the two blue flower pins holding my hair back.
"Hm... You attacked me yet I sense no murderous intent from you." The man cooed, his eyes dancing delightedly. He was excited... Almost as if he enjoyed my fear and helplessness.
"Without that murderous intent, how can you hope to defeat me?!" Roared the man, his zanpakuto slicing through the air, closer and closer to me... I couldn't so much as scream. I could only stare in absolute fear at not only him, but also at a horrified Uryu who stood rooted to the spot for a moment then flashed out of my sight.
[Uryu POV]
It happened so fast I couldn't believe my eyes. One second, Orihime was standing there pointing where she wanted to go, the next, a huge soul reaper appeared, his sword about to slice into her ...No. Not if I could help it. Drawing up a large quantity of ratii to propel myself, I launched myself forward, yanking Orihime close and moving a good thirty feet away. I kept my arm around her quaking shoulders, determined to soothe her in the only way I knew how.
"You're safe now, Orihime." I reassured, calling upon my bow to appear. A blue glow appeared in my gloved hand, spidering out into a magnificent blue and white bow.
"If you want to attack someone, what about me, soul reaper?" I challenged, my tone as sharp and cold as ice. If he thought he was going to get to Orihime, he was going to have to get past me.
The big man snorted derisively, throwing some dirt in my eyes to effectively blind me. I clenched my jaw, attempting to remove the foreign residue only to stumble and roll off the rooftop, my hand clinging onto the rafters. A loud bang sounded, my blood growing cold as I realized I left Orihime defenseless. I dissapated my bow in order to yank myself up, running up to glimpse her backed into a corner with nowhere to run to.
I once again summoned my bow and aimed a single ratii arrow at the roaring oaf before us. It struck his weapon with a deafening clang, and he seemed impressed. He turned to me, eyes narrowing suspiciously.
"Ah.... one uses unfamiliar skills, and one is a Quincy. How very.... intresting." He lashed out, his shikai now whizzing haphazardly through the air. Blades... spinning wind powered blades. One sliced into my side, causing me to groan in pain. Orihime gasped, her arms extended protectively as she called upon her shield, diffusing many of the blades.
"Uryu, are you okay?" She asked, clearly upset that I had gotten hurt.
I nodded mutely, tasting blood in my mouth.
The soul reaper grinned, more of his comrades appearing from all sides. We were trapped.
[Orihime's POV]
"Uryu, are you okay?" I asked, hoping he still had his kit on him. His side was bleeding profusely, but he remained standing, blue retinas locked coldly on the man in front of us. Had the man no remorse? Uryu was a teenager for heavens sake!
Tears threatened to escape my eyes, worry clouding my heart. I knew Quincies were strong warriors, but the influx of men brandishing swords was too overwhelming. They're more likely to kill Uryu then a girl like me.
Uryu had his weapon drawn, firing rapidly as they mob advanced. I put up my shield as the sudden flashes of kido aimed at us.
"Uryu, I can't hold out much longer!" I wailed as my despair grew. Where was Ichigo? We needed help!
Uryu turned to look at me, panting quietly. His fingers were bloody, and the kido from several swords left his face covered in slashes.
"I promised to protect you. And by the honor of the Quincy, I will."
I believed him immediately, his penetrating gaze so fierce and strong. Much different from the mild mannered boy from craft club.
He pelted three shinigami with his arrows, shielding me from all the aoproaching enemies. They leered at me, effectively placing fear in me. Uryu can't last too much longer going one to twenty skilled combat men.
And I was right... The original attacker who aimed for me grabbed Uryu by the front of his robes, suffocating him in front of me with his enormous grip.
"Come with me girl... or say goodbye to your little four eyed friend here." He spoke calmly, tightening his grip so that Uryu's hands were too busy trying to free himself rather then attack.
"Stop! You're going to kill him!" I cried out beeseechingly, tears dropping onto my cheeks.
"Run Orihime..." He mustered, his intense eyes focused solely on me. "What are you waiting for?! RUN. GET OUT OF HERE. GO NOW" He shouted, kicking his opponents gut and effectively wriggling free. The shinigami gasped, clutching his tweed stomach before the rest came pouring in, yelling vicious words to me and Uryu. I braced myself, the last amount of my strength going into my shield as they fired from their hands and swords.
It was too much. Way too much.
"Bakudo number 33. Sokatsui!" One said, a light rocketing towards Uryu who was attempting to fight off a particularly brawny man with jet black hair.
I leapt in front, using my shield to deflect it. .. or so I thought. The destructive power threw me off my feet, my body hitting into a wall. I cried out once, darkness surrounding my vision until I finally passed out, blood streaking down my temple.
[Uryu's POV]
It felt as though the wind had been knocked out of my body. One minute I was wrestling a man away from Orihime, then a loud blast flung me uselessly into the ground. I gritted my teeth as the pain in my side, chest, and hands started up as I lifted myself up off the ground. All the men were blown off the roof. All but one. And he was approaching a small figure who's red hair was now streaked with blood....
Orihime.
I was running before I knew it, hoping and praying she was still alive. She had to be. This couldn't happen. The man lifted her up and with an enormous amount of speed, disappeared with her in tow.
"ORIHIME" I yelled out hopelessly, the man's spiritual pressure moving towards the twelfth set of barracks. She was gone... but I would bring her back if it was the last thing I would do.
"ORIHIME"
Whew.. Well isn't he in a pickle ;) Next chapter will be more Uryu, and how his feelings will come into play. Thanks for reading! Comment if you'd like to share any thoughts!
