A bleeding heart

"Why didn't you run away?" Uryu asked, his voice cracking and breaking with emotion.

Orihime's cloudy silver irises grew unfocused, her pale pink lips twisting into a faint smile as she murmured her spirits mantra and a small triangle of orange light formed around the wound.. It was a deep wound, and with nothing but sheer willpower, she forced the wound to reknit and close slowly.

"Because, Uryu... I wanted to stay with you... Is that...so bad?"

His eyes scorched with self hatred and sadness. If only he was stronger, he could've shot that arrow elsewhere. He had failed as a friend and as a suitor.. If he were stronger, he could have turned on that psychotic captain and killed him like the filthy animal he was. None of this would have happened...

"Don't be sad..." She whispered, her eyes now closed and a single tear dropped down her colorless cheek. Her chest rose and fell slowly, her fullbring evaporating to leave a semi-healed hole in her otherwise flawless creamy skin. Uryu sighed and leaned over to pick her up, cradling his blood soaked friend to his chest and fled to a nearby set of barracks that had an air of abandonment. The door was open, thankfully, but to his dismay the bed was in poor condition.

Suppose it's better then nothing, thought Uryu bitterly as he placed her gently onto the bed, smoothing her fiery auburn locks from her face. The fact she was alive but barely was making Uryu anxious and angry with himself.
He straightened up and sat down on an opposing wood chair, his forehead creased with worry. He could almost hear Ichigo's voice in his head, yelling like the caveman he was about Orihime's almost death.. Uryu wouldn't blame him though. This was all his fault.

"That was a close one.." A silky voice replied as he switched off his monitor. The squad twelve captain hummed tonelessly, excited by the things he had just bore witness to.. His solution had transfigured his subject almost into a completely perfect soldier. What really excited the captain was the boy's ties to the girl. He had heard of humans and their kind hearts, but he hasn't seen it up close in centuries.

"Nemu! Fetch me some tea this instant!"

The obedient girl appeared at the doorway and bowed her head as a sign of respect, then disappearing nearly as quick. The Captain's toothy grin made an appearance as he formulated a new plan... One that'll land him full control of the human girl..

One day...

---

She looks still too pale, Uryu surmised as he glanced at her porcelain face. I like it better when her cheeks are pink and her eyes are so full of life and carefree bliss.

He doubted she'd want anything to do with him after this. Who would befriend someone who tried to kill you? He knew he most certainly wouldn't. He leaned down, kissing her forehead and quietly muttering a quick "Love you" to her, his eyes closing as the supersoldier solution wore off and left him drained of all his spirit energy. He rest his head on the most comfortable piece of wall and drifted off, his senses still on high alert. He would redeem himself...he just had to.
