Scars

All the legends had scars. That much was true. Stein from where his idiotic younger self had gotten shot. Jax from when he'd busted his leg cause of the particle accelerator explosion. Ray from the night Anna died. Snart from when his dad got a bit too rough with a bottle. Kendra and Carter's wounds from their first death rescarred upon their bodies with every reincarnation. Sara had scars for days due to her years as an assassin, but two legends weren't as proud to show their scars off as the others when they were changing.

The team was getting ready for a mission. The only two yet to change were Mick due to drunken laziness or so everyone always presumed and Clarity because she was having way to much fun with Gideon, at least that's what was always thought. Little did everyone know but both had hung back purposefully. Each was self conscious about their scars, never liking anyone to see, keeping them hidden under layers of clothes for fear of questions that neither wanted to get into. Though this time, they got their timing a bit off. Whether Mick was moving slow or Clarity'd skipped there too fast was a mystery. But even so a line was crossed because of it. One that Clarity could only wipe away by evening out the sand.

When Clarity walked into the room Mick was shirtless. All his scars and burns on full display. This was the first time Clarity had ever set eyes on his scars. Mick stared back at her his face unreadable. Here it comes. He expected her to look at him in pity or some other sappy emotion. He knew she knew that they were there but knowing and seeing were two very different things. But instead Clarity didn't speak a word merely walking into the room and over to the screen punching in some things before a different shirt for her to wear materialized.

For a second Mick heard her take a shaky sort of breath and he looked at her confused. He didn't want her crying for him of all people. He didn't deserve her tears. He was nothing to cry over. She faced away from him. So Mick couldn't see her face. What shocked him was what Clarity did next.

Mick had been expecting her to turn around with tears in her eyes and start asking him questions like why would you never tell me they were this bad? Or something sentimental like that. However Clarity didn't do that. Instead she lifted the edges of her shirt up ever so slowly.

It was then that Mick saw. Clarity had a scar too. It took up her entire lower back. It was in a circuit board pattern, a rectangle that marred her smooth skin with lines and circles. Mick almost thought that a scar like that would be befitting, but he didn't. She shouldn't have any scars. She wasn't like Sara, Snart or even himself. She was good and pure. The woman was literally light itself. Why was her skin marred with a reminder of pain?

Once the old shirt was off Clarity put the new shirt that Gideon had made on. She turned around to face the arsonist. There were tears in her eyes like Mick expected however he saw no pity. All he saw was understanding and acceptance. Clarity walked up to him still silent and gently placed one hand over a particularly large scar across his chest fingering it gently lightning flowing from her fingertips. Mick grabbed her wrist gently and he turned the underside of it over as he noticed something faint. Mick never really took the time to study Clarity's wrists, not with the way she always moved her hands about when she talked. Scars from some kind of sharp object on her wrist. Clarity bit her lip as they both gazed into each other's eyes. Then she leaned up standing on her tip toes her lips meeting Mick's cheek in a gentle peck. Nothing more and nothing less. Then the next instant he was alone. Clarity having glitched away. In that moment Mick knew. They were more alike than he first thought. Survivors in a world that tried to burn them away.
