A/N- Look, I'm gonna change a lot of things in this book. Like, I will change the schedule and maybe increase the number of matches in a series. But the time span in which this series takes place is the same, just after the world cup 2019. Also, some players are included in this book, which might have not been part of the original squad. This is purely fictional and has nothing to do with real incidents.
Also, please do leave in-line comments. It helps a lot to know that the readers are genuinely interested in the book.
Happy Reading!! :-)

Rohit woke up the next morning with a heavy heart.
His back was paining from the position he had fallen asleep last night. His cheeks were stiff with dried tears which indicated that he had cried himself to sleep. But why? he thought.
Suddenly, the memories of last night came rushing back to him as he remembered the words spoken by his best friend.
His best friend, he thought.
There was a nagging in his heart that told him to believe that maybe Virat wasn't talking about what he was interpreting. But, his brain insisted that he was thinking right. Virat did sound remorseful last night. Very few people could read the real Virat, who ironically kept his heart on his sleeve and Rohit Sharma was proud to be a part of that club.
So, he had understood that Virat was feeling anger, remorse, and guilt; but the reason was yet unknown to him. Therefore, he had accepted whatever rubbish his brain was offering him without thinking through his heart.
But today, he was thinking straight and pondered that yes, maybe Virat wasn't talking about what he was interpreting. He was his best friend, the number one batsman in the world. Why the hell would Virat be jealous of him?
You are stupid Vi, you have transferred your stupid overthinking brain to me, Rohit scolded Virat childishly in his thoughts.
As he was scolding the devil in his mind, the devil himself decided to grace him with his presence.
"Oye, you polar bear, we have to leave today itself. I want you out in five minutes, otherwise, we will leave without - you're awake??!!" said Virat incredulously as he entered the room with a bucket full of water ready in his hand with a tired Jinks trailing him, whose features registered surprise as he saw Rohit awake.
Rohit raised his eyebrows at the bucket and glared at Virat who quickly passed the bucket to Jinks and pointed at him as if he was the one who came up with the idea of waking Rohit in such a sweet manner.
"How come you're awake Ro?" asked Virat.
"Well, contrary to the popular belief, I can wake up on time and without anyone's help", Rohit added the last part sarcastically, glaring at Virat.
"Yeah, yeah, keep dreaming. Anyways, why didn't you come to check on me last night? Kuliya said that you retired to bed as soon as you came back. I am deeply wounded that Rohit Sharma chose his sleep, over his sick best friend", said Virat with his hand over his heart.
Rohit and Jinks rolled their eyes at him and Rohit guiltily asked Virat if he is okay now, apologizing for his behaviour last night.
Now, this shocked Jinks and Virat. Virat teasing Rohit and acting overdramatic was normal, but Rohit looking guilty and apologizing was not normal.
Virat tried to pass it off with a casual smile and said, "Of course I am, they don't call me the fittest cricketer in the world for nothing."
Rohit still looked dull so Virat crouched down and asked him, "What's wrong Ro?"
Hearing the concern of his best friend made his guilt worse for even thinking about doubting him. But there was no way, he could tell Virat what was bothering him so simply said, "Those media people are stupid, Vi. They think that we have a rift going on and those baseless split captaincy rumours."
Apparently, Rohit played the wrong card.
Virat tensed up as soon as he heard what Rohit was asked during the press conference.
"And what did you say?" asked Virat in a small voice.
"That we have a huge rift between us and I practically hate even the sight of you," said Rohit with sarcasm laced in his voice. But one look at Virat's crestfallen face made Rohit remind himself not to be so savage.
"Are you dumb, Vi? Why would I say something like that? You're my best friend for God's sake. Although, I might have shouted at them for even assuming all this", Rohit added sheepishly.
"You're seriously giving me heart attacks today, Ro. YOU, shouted at the press?" asked Jinks looking quite stunned with Rohit's revelations.
Rohit fell back laughing at Jinks's expressions and soon Jinks joined in. But soon, they both stopped realizing that there wasn't any sound of laughter from the third person present in the room.
"You alright, Vi?" asked Rohit concernedly looking at the gloomy look on his best friend's face.
Virat looked teary and vulnerable as he whispered, "Don't joke about this ever again."
"About what?" asked Rohit, perplexed at Virat's sudden behaviour.
"That you hate even the sight of me. It hurts, Ro, it hurts to even think about the scenario where I would lose you, any of you. A scenario, where you all hate me. A world where I am left alone and nobody's there to hold me and tell me that I am here for you. Please don't say that ever again. Please don't leave me ever, I'm nothing without you all."
Rohit was dumbfounded seeing Vi break down like this on a simple joke. It only reignited the guilt he was feeling since morning.
You stupid fool!! This guy is crying just by the mere thought of you leaving him and you were accusing him of being jealous of you??!! his heart shouted at him.
He looked at Virat with determined eyes and hugged him tightly.
"That day will never come Virat, I repeat never!! Right Jinks?"
Jinks nodded and joined the hug, making Virat that whatever may come in his life, his best friends will always be there to support him.
"Oh, that day will soon come, Rohit and Virat, soon, and this time you won't be prepared to fight it", whispered a voice evilly at the door.

Hello everybody, I hope you all liked the chapter. I tried to focus on Rohirat here because they will be the main pair in the book. Please give your suggestions on the progress of this book and do tell me if there is any scope for improvements.
Well, I won't be able to update for a week now because of these stupid exams. Although, I might write a one-shot for Mahi Bhai's birthday if I get an idea.
Love,
Mishka☆
