But, what if.........

An indecipherable thought occurred to him.

What if Virat was innocent? What if Virat was framed?

Rohit, for the first time since the fiasco, pondered upon the thought. Suddenly, his gaze fell upon his nightstand, where laid a white envelope.

Puzzled, he opened it to find a letter written by Virat addressed to him.

* * * * * * * * * * * * *

Rohit stared at the elusive handwriting.

Why did Virat leave me a letter? When did he do that? Had he visited me before he left?

Rohit suddenly remembered getting up yesterday, with a blanket draped over him. Had Virat done that? Was he looking like he was feeling cold?

His face softened. Another one of their little caring gestures.

Yes, to the world they seemed like they fought a lot, but they both knew about the small little things they did when they thought the other didn't know.

As Jinks used to say- a mad match made in heaven.

His lips curled upwards instantaneously as Virat rolling his eyes at him appeared in front of him.

"Dumb idiot", grumbled Virat.

"Hey, I'm not dumb. But come here, let me hug you", he cried warmly.

Virat smirked. "Oooooo, Rohit wants to hug me... I'll tell Rits", he exclaimed playfully.

"Oh hush, you!!", said Rohit as he went forward to embrace him but all he could grasp was thin air.

He blinked his eyes, once, twice, thrice. There was no Virat in front of him.

He was hallucinating.

He shook himself out of his trance. Another tear found its way down his cheek. He glanced at the letter again, held shakily in his hands.

Why the hell am I so nervous to open the letter?

His throat went dry and he tore his eyes away from it. The deafening silence of the room and the unread letter in his hands made him jittery.

He was scared.

He was scared that Virat might be innocent and they hadn't believed him.

He was scared that Virat had gone and they hadn't bothered to search him.

He was scared that Virat had left them without seeing them for the last time.

He was scared that there was a last time when there were promises of eternity.

A feeling of dread crept into his heart. It felt hollow as his breathing intensified and he fell on his knees.

"No", he cried aloud in despair.

He felt a storm brewing inside him. He didn't want to lose someone so important in his life.

"Ugh!!!!!!!!! I don't know", he shouted, feeling like pulling his hair out. He didn't know what to know. He didn't know what to want. He didn't know what to believe. He didn't know what to feel.
