The wind was cool today. Not too hot despite the sweltering sun beating down on the kingdom. You were settle safely at the top of the highest point on Mononga Tree. The tree was where much of the life in the Corvid Kingdom happened. It was always bustling with new drama and trades on the inside and somewhere within someone was always playing music loud enough to reach all corners of the tree, even outside.
The song played today was slow, and defiant yet mournful. It was the song of a mother bear loosing her cub to poachers. Most knew it as Mellohi. One of the few songs you would be able to find on discs from the past worlds.
You sighed, leaning into the branch behind you as you watched the sun set. You wanted to fly now, but because of nightfall approaching, you couldn't, phantoms owned the sky now.
Despite being part phantom, like the rest of the royal family, you looked too bird-like causing you to be seen as a threat to the rest of the phantom family in the kingdom. It was due to your mother lacking the phantom gene in her blood. She was a rare purebred only owl genes flowed in her veins. She was supposed to marry another owl to continue to purebred line, yet fell in love with your father on accident. She left her family to be with your father and to this day they are not on speaking terms.
A few clicks to your right could be hear as someone's talons gripped the branch they were walking on.
"Y/n." It was your brother's voice that uttered into the now night air. "You can't be out here now, fly home. Mother wishes to speak with us."
"Just a minute longer, I want to feel the air." You murmured, closing your eyes against the wind.
"We must go, the phantoms are awaking." He spoke more firmly this time.
"Very well." You sighed, turning towards him. His feathered ear tufts were pointed upward on his head forever stuck in that upward position. You faintly wondered if it was uncomfortable for him seeing as you could move your own. He gave you a soft smile before opening his black wings and taking off. In the sun there was usually a purple, green and blue hue to them, a sign of the phantom more prominent in Jexter's features than yours. You followed suit, opening the multicolored wings on your back and flying behind.
As your home started to come into view, you began to tuck your wings in towards your body, giving you better leverage to land smoothly. With a couple flaps, you where safely on the ground and running towards your father who seemingly had gotten back from his trip not too long ago.
Your hands wrapped around the raven man. He laughed, wrapping his own arms around your taller form. "Y/N! I'm glad to see you!" He gave you a pat on your wings.
"Pa, welcome home!" You smiled down at him.
"Thank you, now, come, we have important matters to discuss, let's have dinner while we talk though." He lead you and your brother towards the dinner table, talons clicking against the ground as you all walked.
Your mother was already seated at the table, her white hair a stark contrast against the dark room. You all sat in your seats before the room began to get tense. Immeadiatly, food was being passed around the table as the four of you began to eat.
"So," your father cleared his throat. "You will be spending a few months moving from kingdom to kingdom, starting in the nether." His attention was on you, making it clear that he was speaking to you.
"Oh, may I ask why? Normally Jex or you guys would be the ones to leave, I have never been of importance in Kingdom affairs." You tilted your head as your feather tufts rose on the top of your head, showing your confusion.
"You are to be married to one of King Philza's sons."
The table went silent and you stared at your father. "You're... kidding right?" You burst out laughing slightly. "Good joke, pa, good joke. You almost had me there."
"Its not a joke." He spoke with a complete seriousness that caused your entire world to come crashing down.
"Oh." Suddenly you lost your appetite. You stood up and pushed your chair in as gently as you could. You bid your family good night before briskly walking down the tree into your hollow where your nest laid.
Faintly above you, you could hear shouting from your brother and father and foot steps heading down the stairs towards you. Your mother walked up to your huddled self, gently reaching a hand out to pet the feathers that crowned your head.
"We'll be with you for those first four days you'll be staying in the Nether. After that we must leave. You can choose the gaurd you want to take in the morning. The maids will have your clothes packed and and outfit made out for you." She whispered to your unresponsive body.
"I know it sucks but you'll have fun, I promise you... and maybe, you might even fall in love with one of his sons."
Soon after, she left you alone, letting your body and mind fall into a restless slumber.
