"Greetings Remi, have I scared you?" said the thing with a strangely calm voice. He was speaking very slowly. Whatever the thing was, he was not human. It was nothing this world had ever seen before. It looked like an human but with wings and horns. He was flying above Remi while staying in front of him.
"Who the fuck are you, you ungodly abomination?!" shouted Remi in complete shock and horror. He fell down his bed and stood there, laying on the floor, completely petrified. His eyes widened. His expression was indescribable. He was terrified.
The room started getting hotter and more of a reddish color. That hellish place looked nothing like Remi's room anymore. He didn't know what was happening.
"You're probably confused right now but don't worry, I get it, it's hard to realize certain things about this world" further said the thing.
"What are you?" responded Remi.
He could barely talk, his trembling voice could just make noises, but couldn't make up any words that made sense.
"I'm what you would call "devil", and I must admit that I am rather bored these days--" said the thing, but in the middle of his speech, he got interrupted by Remi.
"What.. What do you want from me?!" shouted Remi.
"How can any of this be happening? The devil exists? Does this mean that God, heaven and hell also exist? I'm not.. dreaming, right?" Remi thought. He started shaking.
"Sometimes, truth is the hardest pill to swallow. Indeed, heaven and hell do exist." answered the devil with an awfully frightening tone of voice.
"Brilliant, it can also read minds.." thought Remi.
"Getting back to what I was saying, has something "unusual" happened in your life recently? Like something that completely changed your life?" asked the devil as he started grinning, while holding back an evil laugh.
Remi realized in that very moment that the devil was, by a high chance, responsible for Carla's disappearance.
"You.. piece of shit! What do you want from my life!? Where the hell is Carla?!" angrily shouted Remi at the devil, as he was trying to take the courage to get up from the floor.
"I have a knife.. do I even stand a chance at fighting him? Is it possible to kill it?" thought Remi as his sight fell right on the knife.
The devil started laughing. He couldn't hold it back anymore. Remi had never heard something as macabre as that laugh. It was terrifying.
"Do you really think that a pathetic human knife is enough to get me the slightest cut? You can try if you want, but I wouldn't recommend it." said the devil while laughing at him.
"Just answer the goddamn question.. why are you here? You wanted to confront me about Carla's disappearance to laugh at me? If you're here for that, then, just do it, I can't do anything about it" further said Remi. He seemed to have no more energy left inside. His gaze was empty and his tone of voice was that of a person dead inside.
"You're such a weakling.. I had fun stalking your miserable life full of sorrows and grief, but I have to admit that I felt pity for you." responded the devil. He sounded more disappointed than angry.
"For how long have you been stalking me?.." responded Remi.
"7 whole months." responded the devil.
Remi smiled for no apparent reason.
"Why did you feel pity for me? At this point, make my pain end forever. Kill me. I'm ready to die." said Remi as he hung his head and his hair covered his eyes.
"I don't want to make your life either happier or end, or at least, not without a price" said the devil. He started grinning.
"That's why you're here then huh? I suppose you want to make a deal with me?" replied Remi. He raised his head and stared right into his eyes. Now he was curious.
"If he wanted me dead.. he would have already killed me." thought Remi. Everything made sense in his mind.
"Exactly. I have a deal. You'll have one day to think about accepting it or not." responded the devil, staring back at his eyes.
"I'm up for it. Tell me what's the deal." replied Remi.
The devil started laughing again.
"100." said the devil. Remi looked at him confused.
He took a little break, then he grinned.
He raised his right hand and raised his index finger with it.
"100 lives in exchange of 1, that of your girlfriend."
"What?!" shouted Remi. His eyes widened and his pupils narrowed. He could barely believe what he had just heard. You could hear the terror, pain and disbelief in that word he had just shouted. He has always been a person that lacked determination and willpower, killing was the last thing he would have ever done.
"You have one day to think about it. At 6:30pm of the next day, I'll be right in this room again. I hope you're not that foolish and weak to refuse a deal that could fix your life. Be grateful I felt pity for you." further said the devil as he disappeared passing through the door, without giving Remi a chance to answer.
The room got back to normal.
Remi spent the rest of the day with tears in his eyes, shaking and convincing himself that the only thing he could have done was accept the deal. When his parents came back home, he had already put the knife in the drawer again. He tried to hide how he was feeling during dinner and he was strangely successful.
That night, he didn't close an eye. The thought of killing someone disgusted him, but the thought of not having Carla back again in his arms terrified him the most.
It was too much for him. He had never experienced anything similar.
Time flew by.
It was 6:30pm of the very next day. The devil punctually showed up.
The room again turned hotter and painted with hellish colors.
Remi thought about it for a whole day. He knew what he had to do.
The devil asked him whether he wanted to accept the deal or not.
Remi answered..
