Henrik's POV
"Good evening neighbor!" I called out to the man coming out of the SUV. He glanced my way as he took a box out of his trunk. I have never seen this man before yet I have lived here for six years. After I left Marseille, I never went back to the Chateau. Tokyo has been my home. I only check on the port from time to time. "I'm sorry, I'm assuming you speak English.""I do." He smiled. "Good evening."
"Do you need help with the boxes?"
He looked at them and closed his trunk. "Nah! I can get them later." He sounds American.
The only reason I'm speaking to him I'd because of an incident that happened earlier this afternoon. I found a little Asian girl in my living room. At first I thought I'm imagining it and I even looked into the tea I was drinking. When she waved at me I waved back. I called the housekeeper to deal with the situation. I was informed that she's the neighbor's child. I was even by one of the front facing windows of my house when I saw her being picked by a red-headed woman. The first thing that comes to mind when I see a woman with red hair is Vivi. There are barely any red heads around. So when she looked towards the house and I saw it was her, I was shocked.
My eyes trailed her until she went into the house next door.
Has life become that hard that she is a nanny now?
"I really don't mind. Put these arms to use."
On a normal occasion if the situation was reversed and he was the one trying to make conversation, chances are I would blow him off. I don't like talking to people. All this is to get into his house and see Vivi or maybe another twin she may have.
He agreed and I picked up one of the boxes. It felt heavy. "What are you carrying in here?"
"Books."
"Are you an author?"
"Just an enthusiastic reader. Come on in." He invited me into the minimalist house. There's not much and it's a typical Asian home. He came back for the box in my hands. I lingered looking around for anything personal that can indicate why Vivi is here. They don't have photographs or portraits of their family on the walls.
"Thank you for the help. I'm Zeke." He bowed his head slightly and offered his hand. I shook it.
"I'm Henrik."
"It's a pleasure to meet you. Let me call my family to greet you as well. Please join us for dinner. I'll be back shortly." He bowed again. I reciprocated it. He's a polite man. I waited for him to return. Theo isn't feeling well. I don't wish to be here long. At least that was the thought until he came back with a red head and the little Asian girl. I smiled at Vivi. She didn't return my excitement.
"This is my daughter Chen Ling." The Little one pressed her palms together and bowed her little head. Sometimes I get confused as to who to bow to because it happens a lot but it's better to bow. It's their culture. "This is my wife, Vivi."
Wife? Did he say wife? I immediately took notice of the simple gold bands on both their left hands. This is disappointing.
"It's a pleasure to meet you." I offered my hand but she only stared at me behaving like a statue.
He frowned at her. He took her hand and guided it to mine. "Honey shake his hand. Don't be rude." As soon as I touched the soft palm, she retracted her hand.
"Is this your daughter?" I asked both of them.
They are married, fine. Maybe she married a man with a child.
"Yes. She's ours. I also find it hard to believe that she came from her." What the hell? She gave another man a child? "If I didn't deliver her myself I wouldn't believe it. I had high expectations for a ginger. How rude! Honey this is Henry..."
