A week had passed since the first day of Highschool for Iza. She still had no real friends and usually stayed at a distance with the other kids. Every lunch period, she would eat alone, despite sitting at the same table with the same kids.
They would continue talking and having fun, but she would just sit there and be in her own mind.
She sat down at the table and immediately started to eat her food. The other kids were talking about a trading card game that they collected cards from. She didn't care that much about it, and instead started thinking of different things for her and Maira to fight when she got home.
"I'm tired of goblins and demons... maybe we should fight something like robots!"
She looked around the lunchroom and noticed the art on the walls. There were musical notes and theatre masks decorating the lunchroom.
"Music robots that wear masks! Oh! Maybe we can rip off their masks to fight them! And they explode into musical notes when we kill them!"
Just then, a boy tapped on her shoulder.
"Hey, do you—"
She jumped and looked at him.
The boy was surprised too, "Uhh.. Do you—"
His friend cut him off, "Dude you're so wrong for that! Why are you bothering her? Just to get your point across??"
The first boy turned and said, "I was just gonna ask if she also thinks you're stupid!"
The boys went back to arguing.
Iza couldn't stop thinking of the fact that she got spooked and everyone saw it.
"They probably think I'm a weirdo who's always plotting something!!"
"I should say something so that they don't think I'm strange... but what?!"
The first boy picked up a card and held it up to Iza and asked, "What do you think about this card?!"
It was a card with a cat standing on two legs. It was wearing a football jersey and held two swords.
"Is this what boys are into?"
Iza scrunched her eyebrows, "Uhh, It's cute..."
The boys all yelled and jumped around.
"BRO THERE'S NO WAY SHE SAID THAT!"
"WAIT THIS AIN'T YOU, I TAKE IT BACK!!"
Iza's eyes widened.
"They weren't trying to make fun of him by saying he looked like that cat did they?!"
"Did I just unintentionally call him cute????"
Iza desperately tried to save the situation, "No wait! I meant that he looked weird!"
"YOOOO!!!!" The boy flipped out.
"DID SHE JUST SAY THAT?!?!" The other boy was losing his mind.
There were two girls on the other end of the table yelling, "CAN YOU SHUT UP?!"
It was chaos and Iza was the cause of it.
"I hate this!! Why did I do that?!"
The bell rang soon afterwards and one of the boys walked up to her.
"Hey, I'm sorry about them putting you on the spot like that! They always do dumb stuff."
Iza looked at him and nodded.
Then she walked away very quickly.
"That was so awkward of me... I'm not gonna make it if I keep this up..."
Iza tried to go through the day as normally as possible. She couldn't shake the feeling of what happened earlier.
The day went by and she came home to let out a big sigh. She sluggishly walked into her room and Maira was on her bed playing on her handheld video game.
Iza plopped down onto her bed, which was on the opposite wall that her sister's bed was. Maira paid her no mind.
Iza spoke up, "Maira..."
Maira ignored her.
"MAIRA!"
"(WHAT)?!" Maira looked angry.
"(I was just gonna ask if you wanted to play today)..."
Maira was still playing the video game, "(No, I wanna play this)..."
"(But I'm bored Maira)!
Maira ignored her again.
Iza laid there and sighed. She got on her phone and went on social media. There was an app called "Parrot" and on it, you could make posts and others would comment on them. Iza herself never really posted anything but she would always see posts from classmates. She would know they are classmates because they were in the same "Friends of a feather group". This was just a way to join different groups that followed your interests.
As she scrolled she saw this on her page:
Kaylie shared a post:
"My little sister Erin made a poster for the Charity of Charities event! Contact me if you have any questions!"
It showed a beautiful painting with a blonde girl holding it; she was really happy. The painting had butterflies on it, and they were rainbow colored. Iza absolutely loved the way those butterflies looked.
She looked over at Maira then back at her phone. Then she put her phone down and thought of those butterflies fluttering around.
Such a beautiful sight. They would flutter and have rainbow colors everywhere. It was a very serene image. Even though they flew in a sporadic pattern, they were very relaxing.
Maira violently shook Iza awake.
"AAAGH!!" Iza screamed.
"(Iza! It's time for dinner!!)" Maira seemed to be enjoying Iza's shrieking.
Maira ran off and Iza slowly got up to go eat dinner as well.
