"Does it still hurt?" Sandra asks, a few minutes after Laila takes pain medicine.
"I don't think it's supposed to heal me right away," she laughs dryly at her friend.
Sandra had found Laila, crying at the back of the castle, after she had waited for a few hours in her chambers.
Luckily, she was able to get her lady back inside her chambers without coming across any of the ladies and had freshened up from her work outside.
Laila had complained that her head was throbbing because Stephan accidentally slammed her against the wall, the stones, hitting her head in the process.
"This is not good for you," Sandra says, sitting by her Laila's side.
"What?"
"What the king is doing is unfair!" she exclaims. Laila widens her eyes, before quickly covering her mouth.
"Sandra we can't have people overhearing this conversion, please keep it down"
Sandra removes her hand, standing up, whispering harshly, "Why should I keep it down? We both have no clue about what you did to upset the king, and he says you should stay ignorant? That's unfair!"
"...As a woman of the king, it is my job to please him," she says to her friend.
"And that includes shedding tears and getting your head hit against the wall?"
"That was an accident Sandra""He knew what he did, and bothered not to apologize."
"I upset him."
Sandra groans in frustration, pacing back and forth. Laila watches her friend slowly before saying, "He's never been cold to me before Sandra and you know it. I just need to find out what I did wrong and everything will be fine -"
"WE DON'T KNOW WHAT YOU DID WRONG!" Sandra yells.
"Sandra you're too loud," Laila says sternly.
She huffs in anger, taking a seat again.
Laila turns immediately, tapping her, "What if it's Arthur?"
"Arthur?"
"You said the king is probably jealous."
"Yes, but you did not believe me."
"We should not rule it out now that our options are gravely limited. Before King Stephan told me he didn't care about what I did, he saw Arthur helping us with water, and Arthur has been consistently helping us. I even waved at him today."
Sandra nods, "But why would he be jealous? He knows you love him."
Laila lets out a sigh nodding, she has confessed to him and got rejected, so what she's thinking is definitely wrong. There's no way King Stephan is jealous.
"I should focus on making the celebration successful."
"You have never planned one before."
"I know, Lady Garnet did it last year so I'll just ask her." Laila stands heading over to her dresser, powdering her face to conceal any sign that she cried.
"Your headache has subsided?"
She shakes her head, "It has not, but I can't wait, I have to get started early."

"My Lord, what is wrong with you?" Lady Garnet asks Stephan who had entered her chambers.
"What do you mean?" he asks, taking a seat on her bed.
