A couple days later we were lounging around a table as Kie waited on us. She brought us over drinks as she talked to John B.

"So you're staying where?" She said.

"Tannyhill," he replied.

"So you're living with Sarah Cameron."

"Hey, look, the only reason I'm living there is because her dad bailed me out, right? And it's way better than foster care, which, by the way, is where I was about to go if Ward didn't-"

"Hey, so like do you have a membership to the clubs now?" Pope interrupted.

"I don't know, Pope," he replied.

I took a sip from my drink as he sat down at the table.

"What about one of those golf carts they get to drive around? You get one of them?" JJ said.

"Does it come with a sweater vest, or do you have to buy one on your own?" Pope mocked.

"Look, you promised," Kie said. "You said you weren't with her."

He shrugged a little.

"Bro, just own it. She got you," JJ said.

"Look, if you wanna hang out with her, that's fine. But I'm letting you know right now that I'm not doing anything with Sarah," Kie said.

"Do you guys see her here?" He replied. "No. Right. A little focus would be fantastic. We've got the map, right?"

"Well, it's all out of whack 'cause the guy was ganja'd when he drew it," JJ said.

"It's cause the coast changed," Kie said obviously.

"So we just have to look for landmarks that haven't changed," Pope said.

"What about the old forts?" John B said.

"Battery Jasper," Kie said, to which Pope pointed at it on the map.

We finished our drinks, then drove up to where it once stood. We stood amongst the rubble, looking out over the small valley.

"We're in Battery, right here," Pope said. "So, if this is Parcel Nine, then it's somewhere northeast of here."

"Somewhere over there," Kie said, pointing over at the trees.

"Right," Pope said.

"Over there?" JJ said. "Guys, that's not Tannyhill, that's a subdivision."

"Tannyhill Plantation used to be the entire island," John B said. "It got sold into smaller pieces over time."

"So, we're just looking for an old stone wall," Pope said.

We got back into the van and began to make our way down the road, Pope guiding the way. We turned onto another road and a stone wall came into view.

"That looks like a stone wall to me," JJ said.

"This is it," Pope said.

"Not the Crain house," John B said.

"Are you kidding me?" Kie said as we walked closer.

"Worst-case scenario," JJ said.

"Why'd it have to be here..." Pope said.

"Well, there's probably worst places," I said. "At least the tides didn't rise until it was swallowed."

"I heard that Mrs. Crain buried her husband's head on the property," JJ said.

We began to make our way through the tall weeds, up to the house.
