The next morning we woke up in the Wreck, having spent the night there. I was lying on some blankets on the floor when the sun streamed through the windows, making my eyes sting. I opened them slowly and groaned quietly, not wanting to wake up yet. I rolled over a little, looking at the spot next to me, but JJ wasn't there. I rubbed my eyes a little, then pushed myself up into a sitting position. I pushed myself to my feet and walked back into the main room, seeing JJ leaning against the wall by the windows, looking out over the water as he played with his lighter.

I walked over to him, causing him to look over to me. He smiled a little at me, but it didn't quite reach his eyes. I returned it and leaned up, kissing his cheek.

"Morning," I said quietly.

He hummed in response, looking down at his lighter, then back out to the water. I looked over as Pope walked over to us, his clothes wrinkled and messy.

"He's pinched for sure, man," JJ said as he walked over.

"No. They wouldn't still be patrolling if they caught him," Pope replied.

"Let's hope," JJ said.

"You know," Kie said as she woke up and walked over to us as well. "We were in that car. They're probably looking for us, too."

"Well, if we're gonna be outlaws, we might as well help John B," Pope said.

"And how do you suggest we do that?" I asked with a sigh as I sat on the edge of a nearby table.

"Yeah, what?" JJ said. "Find him before they do?"

We watched as Pope walked over to our stuff and retrieved the keys.

"Hello?" I said as he ignored us. "Earth to Pope?"

"I'm gonna get gas for the boat," he said as he walked off.

"Hey, you be careful. Okay?" Kie said as he headed for the door.

He stopped and looked at her, the tension rising as he remembered the events from last night.

"Meet me at the dock at three," he said to JJ. "Don't be late."

JJ looked over to Kie as he fell confused about the tension between them and Pope's attitude. Kie stormed out the door after him, calling out to him. JJ and I followed her out slowly, walking beside each other.

"Fill me in," he whispered out the side of his mouth.

"Pope confessed that he loves her last night," I whispered back. "She doesn't like him like that. Turned him down. It was messy. He was really hurt."

JJ whistled lowly as we walked over to the railing and looked down as Pope revved the engine to JJ's bike alive. Kie continued to shout at him as he revved the engine to tune her out. He zoomed out of the driveway without another word and made his way into town. Kie turned around and started to walk back towards us. She stopped as the sound of a helicopter filled the air and we looked up. The chopper was low to the ground as it headed to land.

"Who the hell is that?" JJ said, looking at the helicopter.

"I don't know," I said. "But it probably doesn't mean anything good for us or John B."

"Come on," Kie said as she walked up the stairs. "We can start to get stuff ready for them."

Hours later we were gathering food and supplies from the Wreck to give to John B and Sarah on their trip. The three of us talked about Pope and how much he was changing and the things that were making him change.

"You sure he wasn't just being weird Pope?" JJ said.

"Did that seem like normal weird Pope?" I said.

"Well, no," JJ replied.
