Losing Neverland

Out on the road, out in the fields,
Amongst the reeds and the snow.
It's just me and my shadow
keeping me company.
Out under the clouds, under the sun,
The crows huddle behind their feathers
Not one stands out alone.

I walk on and on.
There's nothing holding me back
But the mud grabbing my shoes.
There's no road I'd rather walk upon
That I could feel safer to be in.
It's just me and my shadow standing out alone.

Far in the distance lights and sirens come
Wandering eyes found me walking along.
Now, I am alone, even my shadow is gone.
The fields fly by me like light under the wings of a white crow over silver streams.
Now, even my shadow has fled from me.
I would no longer allowed to stand out alone.

Back to the place I had fled,
Where the days became are darker and longer
I find myself alone.
The land is hard and morose and overgrown.
I lost my shadow, it fled with the crows.
So I find myself wishing for that field
With my shadow standing out alone.
