-Lyra had no idea what to expect when she showed up at Pansy's dorm the next morning. But the last thing she expected was to hear Theo's voice floating out of the room through the thin walls.
She prayed to Merlin that Pansy didn't tell him anything about her breakdown the night before or that she needed snogging lessons. She didn't want anyone knowing, not even Kaia or Astor. It was much too embarrassing.
"Are you sure, Pans?" She heard Theo ask, though his voice was slightly muffled and he could have very much been saying "are they short pants" instead.
"Yes, we will both get what we want, you'll see." Pansy's voice was clearer, her confident tone was evident even through the walls.
Lyra listened for Theo's response but she was met with beats of silence. She broke the silence and tapped against Pansy's dorm door.
Almost instantly it flew open and Pansy bearing a wide grin.
"Lyra, I'm so glad you actually came." Pansy gushed, ushering her inside.
"Hey Lyra." Theo waved, making no motion to leave. For once his regular sunny and confident disposition was clouded over on his face, he seemed somewhat nervous or unsure about something. Lyra's stomach flipped with unease.
"I hope you don't mind that I asked Theo to come. I thought he would be the perfect solution to your problem." Pansy explained, locking the door behind Lyra. The younger witch felt her heart pound with panic. Was Pansy going to make her practice snogging Theo or something?
"Oh Merlin, she looks like a stunned Niffler. I told you she wouldn't be into this." Theo glared at Pansy.
"Oh hush." Pansy dismissed him with a loose flip of her hand and an eyeroll. "She doesn't even know what this is." She turned to Lyra. "Let me explain- So you fancy Blaise, right?"
Lyra paled.
"I'll take that as a yes. Besides, it's quite obvious to anyone with eyes." Pansy let out a light laugh. "But Blaise, for some reason, is being evasive or confusing?" She guessed.
Lyra remained silent. The weight of both Theo and Pansy's eyes held her mouth shut.
"Come on, Lyra. We can only help you if you're honest." Pansy pushed.
Once Lyra responded with a nod she could feel Theo's gaze harden instantly.
"Well I think Blaise is just scared. He's terrified of crossing that line with you and angering Draco. He's always been a little pussy." Pansy glanced at Theo for confirmation. "Right, Theodore."
"Just get on with the plan, Pans." Theo sighed, glancing at the clock as if he was evaluating how much of his precious time Pansy was wasting. She responded with a glare that could shatter bones.
"Okay, well-" Pansy turned her attention back to Lyra. "Wizards are incredibly jealous and pathetic creatures. Blaise may be running out of your arms now, but the second he sees another lad dangling off your arm, he'll be fighting to be in them."
"Make him jealous with another guy?" Lyra's blonde brows furrowed. She thought about Harper's bruised eye.
"Not just any guy." Pansy's grin was as wide as a Cheshire. "Theo!"
"Theo?"
"Theo." The wizard in question offered a weak grin, a shadow of this usual bright, gleaming smile.
"So we would, what? Pretend to date?" Lyra questioned.
"Yes, exactly. It's perfect because Theo is in the same position as Blaise, except he isn't afraid of Draco." Pansy explained.
