After a few days, I gave up on trying to contact Emily. I knew all I would get is a voice-mail and no reply when I try texting her. I punched out of work and was about to leave when my boss yelled for me. "Hey Luke can you come here for a second, I need to talk to you." I went into his office and sat down, I could tell that he seemed a little upset. "Luke, you've been a great worker and even tho you do space off sometimes, there's no one else I'd trust with the shop other then you" he said in a calm, relaxing voice.
"But unfortunately I have to let you go, the shop isn't receiving enough money and I'm probably going to have to end up selling it" he said. I sighed and got up and smiled at him. "It's okay boss, I understand, thank you for hiring me and letting me have this opportunity to work for you" I said, as I walked out of his office and out of the shop for the last time. I got to the bus and sat their, now wondering what I was gonna do.
'Well there goes money for the apartment, what now? It's hard enough to find a job around here and it'll be even harder in the city' I thought to myself. As I got off the bus, I could over hear some people talking about the murder that happened in the alleyway, another gruesome murder that people are now thinking is the work of a serial killer. How much bad luck can this city have, first the Skitzo killer and now this.
As I got home, I could see my bike in my parking spot. 'She's finally home' I thought, as I went in she was sitting on the couch eating, while watching TV. "Hey honey, I have some bad news" I said to her. She continued to eat and watch tv, acting like I didn't say anything. "The boss had to let me go today, so now I don't have a job" I said while walking to the bedroom. "That doesn't surprise me, you probably weren't doing your job right so he fired you" she snapped, while coming into the room.
I took a deep breath and decided it was finally time to ask her. "Emily who is the friend you keep going to and don't lie." She looked startled, probably because I ignored what she had said to me. "Don't change the subject Luke, what are we supposed to do for money now huh?" I repeated myself once again to her, I knew that there was no backing down this time. "Who is your friend Emily? I saw your message on your phone about how he had a good time but you made his dick sore, so tell me now." I snapped at her, knowing this was about to be a fight, I took a deep breath to calm my emotions.
"You snooped through my phone? How dare you, it was nothing but just a wrong number" she said while slapping me in the face. I was so angry, so I decided to say okay and tell her I was going for a long walk. "Fuck you! Don't bother coming back tonight Luke" she said as she slammed the front door on me. I decided to walk around for a few hours and stopped at a dine in, to get some food and something to drink.
After I finished up, I paid, left a tip and started walking again. 'Well thats the end of our relationship but it had to be done' I thought to myself, 'I just wish I could fix it.' I ended up going to a gas station and buying cigarettes, I don't really smoke much but considering the way the day was, I might as well. As I walked outside of the gas station, I lit a cigarette and noticed a couple near the outside corner of the store.
"Oh Lev, your so precious and considerate" said the woman. The man smirked a little and leaned in close enough, that their lips were almost touching. "You are so beautiful and even tho we just met a few hours ago, I can't help but feel in love with you darling" the man said while grinning. 'Lev? Who names their kid Lev?' I thought to myself. I take another drag off my cigarette and start heading towards the downtown part of the city.
As I walked by the couple, I could smell the guys cologne on him and I will admit it was pretty good. "Oh Lev, your eyes are so stunning, I've never met anyone with two different colored eyes before" the woman said as she kissed him. 'It's weird for a couple to act that way if they really met only a few hours ago but hey who am I to judge, since my relationship just went up in flames' I thought to myself, as I walked.
As I got to downtown, it was more quiet here. Not very many people out at this time of night, or should I say morning since it was already 3am. I will probably have to take a bus back home, when they are up and running later. I continued to walk for awhile, till I saw a sign for a park nearby. 'Might as well go their, since I have nothing else to do' I thought.
As I got to the park, I walked around for a bit and even sat on the swings while thinking about what happened back at home and the shop. After awhile I walked to a nearby bench and sat down and lit another cigarette. As I sat their I was thinking about what I should do when I get home. If I should pack up and go or tell her to leave and stay at the apartment, all the while my cigarette burned to the filter.
I was about to light another one till I heard someone talking to me. "Don't you know it's dangerous to be out at night, especially at parks?" The man said. I could tell just by that question he was probably going to rob me or kill me, maybe both. So instead of running like any normal person would have done, I lit a cigarette. "If your going to kill me then get it over with, I'm not afraid to die" I said and looked at him.
I really wasn't afraid to die, I already lost so much and there was nothing left for me to lose. "Sorry I thought you were someone else, my name is ab-Matthew" he said to me. I got up and took another drag off my cigarette, I didn't really wanna make small talk. "it's all good, my name is Luke, I have to go but stay safe out here because don't you know?" I said to him, as he looked at me in confusion. "It's dangerous to be out at night, especially at parks." I said to him, while smirking. "Yeah true" he replied back with a chuckle. I ended up walking away, trying to see if there was a bus nearby. Knowing I had heavy decisions to make on the way home.
