Hunter's Shadow

Chapter four

You watched as they wrapped up the dead man's body. Your heart broke when his daughter came up to you.
"I'm so sorry, " you told her. She wiped the tears off her face only for more to fall.
"My Dad was my only family, I don't know where I am supposed to go now, " the girl said to you. Somehow you could feel all the pain she was feeling, almost like it was your own.

That had never happened before but you paid no attention to it.
"If I was old enough I would adopt you, " you said to the girl being completely honest.
"I don't think that's allowed, " The girl answered and she gave you a small smile. "Do you know what happened to my Dad?" She asked. You were tempted to tell her your suspicions but you never got the chance as another doctor escorted her out.
"How long have you two been standing there?" You asked already aware that Sam and Dean had followed you.
"Long enough, " Sam answered.

He saw how you reacted with that girl and how you tried so hard to save that hunter's life. You had a good heart and it surprised him because he knew that you didn't have it easy. It made him want to take you with him even more. His own thoughts once again scared him, why was he so attached to you? He had only talked with you three times. Dean was also shocked by his brother's sudden interest in you. He had never seen Sam be so parent like, but he pushed those thoughts as you asked him what he wanted.

"How manys deaths like that have happened?" You gulped as all those memories came rushing back to you.
"This is the fourteenth one this week, " you answered. You checked the hallway a few times to make sure Rani wasn't watching you. You didnt want her jumping out of nowhere again.
"And nothing you do seems to help?" Sam asked and you nodded. "Y/n these people who have been dying are hunters, " he explained. You suddenly got worried for them both as he said that.

"Are you guys in danger?" You asked.
"No firecracker we're okay, but we need to figure out why angels are attacking hunters, " Dean said to you.
"Firecracker?" You asked not realizing it was a nickname and you looked around for the firecracker.
"It's a nickname, haven't you ever had one?" Dean asked thinking you were joking. However when you didn't respond he knew you weren't. "So Rani keeps you sheltered?" He asked. You frowned and Sam stepped on his brother's foot thinking Dean was trending on a sensitive topic.

"Sam its okay your brother is right, the only place I've ever been besides my house or cafe is here, " you explained.
"Y/n why do you live with Rani? Where are your parents?" Sam asked.
"I already told you I didn't have any, and to answer your question I don't know, " you answered. Suddenly you heard the sound of Rani's high heels across the floor and before you knew it. She had had found you and placed a hand on your shoulder. Sam didn't like the way you flinched when she touched you.

"I apologize for Y/n's behavior, her curiosity tends to cause her to wander, " Rani said to both brothers. She was holding back a lot of anger she had at both hunters, for taking an interest in you.
"It's no problem she was no trouble, " Dean responded. You were a bigger help to them then Rani ever was.
"So I take it you realized there was no case then?" Rani asked.
"Definitely no case here, tell me though what have you been doing for your patients?" Sam asked.

You could tell by his words that Sam was growing suspicious of Rani. In all honestly so were you, maybe you should told them about Chuck being here. You inconspicously took a piece of paper from your jacket and wrote the word Chuck is here. And then wrote their code word for everything on the other side.
"I assure you i'm doing everything I can for them, " Rani answered. "Come Y/n, " she said to you and began pulling you away. Thinking quickly you went up to Sam and placed the small note in his pocket, while it looked like you were asking him for an autograph.

"Um agent I know this is unprofessional of me, but can I have your autograph, I'm a big fan of your work, "
Sam seemed to pick up on what you were doing and played along.
"Certainly here you go, " Sam said handing you another piece of paper resembling the one you gave him. So Rani wouldn't suspect anything.
"Thank you agent now come along Y/n, " Rani said gently pulling you away from the brothers.
"What did she give you?" Dean asked once you had disappeared from their sight.

"Our code word, peakipske (no idea how that is spelled) and a warning, " Sam said handing his brother the note you gave him.
"Chuck why would he be here?" Dean asked.
"I don't know but we better take what we found back to the motel, " Sam answered. Later once they arrived at the motel Castiel and Jack came up to them asking questions. They explained what they had found out from you and the note you left.
"This Y/n girl has been much help, " Castiel commented.

"Does this mean we can keep her?" Jack asked. He liked you a lot and after hearing that Rani treated you badly he wanted you here with them.
"Jack that would be illegal, plus she wouldn't be safe with us, " Sam responded. He was worried about you as well, but he felt that you being around them was far more dangerous then Rani was. You helped him out with their case, and that was all he needed from you.

"Sam is right Jack, we can't take a child from her family, " Castiel said to Jack. Once he noticed how upset the half angel got at Sam's words. You confused him a bit as well, he could feel that you had certain abilities. That he had never seen in a child not even Jack.
