CASSIOPEIA RECEIVED A NOTE FROM RON A FEW DAYS LATER. She was sitting in Potions class, trying not to rip her hair out over the Strengthening Solution that Snape was making them brew when a small piece of parchment came fluttering over to her. It had two different handwritings. One was barely legible and messy while the other was very neat cursive. Cassiopeia could tell that one was from Ron and the other was from Hermione.

cassie,
meet us on the seventh floor by the tapestry of the trolls dancing at eight o'clock. we found a place to have our meetings. it's called the room of requirement. to enter it, you have to walk back and forth three times and wish for a place to practice. it's a bit confusing but we'll help you get in.

Then there was a large ink splatter on the page as if someone had torn the paper away from his hands, and Hermione's cursive suddenly replaced Ron's chicken scratch.

cass,
you added the powdered griffin claw too early, that's why your potion is turning purple instead of blue. you can still fix it if you add three drops more of the salamander blood and stir counterclockwise four times after it starts to sizzle.

Cassiopeia smiled a bit at the note before she glanced over at one of the Gryffindor tables. Harry and Hermione were arguing under their breath about something and Ron was just staring down at his cauldron hopelessly. He felt eyes on him and looked up to see Cassiopeia staring. She nodded at him and stuffed the note in the pocket of her robes, indicating that she would be there. Ron grinned at her before he ducked his head back down as Snape walked over to their table.

"Draco, pass me the salamander blood," Cassiopeia ordered the blonde boy who stood across the table. She figured that she might as well take Hermione's advice. She needed to pass Potions this year and get a good grade on her O.W.Ls in order to avoid her father's wrath. She had witnessed the tantrum he threw over Thalia and Zethus' grades and didn't want that to happen to her.

"You already added it, Cass. It's not going to do you any good now," Draco said. He motioned to the ugly purple potion that was brewing in her cauldron. Pansy Parkinson let out a small snort as she looked at Cassiopeia's potion. She had always been better than her at potions and took every opportunity to rub it in Cassiopeia's face.

"I don't think even chopped-up scarab beetles can save that mess," Pansy howled with laughter. She earned a few giggles and snorts from the other Slytherin girls. All of them had been way better at Potions than Cassiopeia.

"Shut up, Parkinson. It's not like you can cast a Freezing Spell, even though it was third year material," Cassiopeia huffed. She smirked as Pansy's face flushed from embarrassment and turned back to Draco. She held out her hand and demanded again, "The salamander blood, Draco."

Draco passed the little blue bottle of salamander blood to Cassiopeia. She uncorked the top and carefully put three drops of the shining crimson blood into her cauldron. Instantly, her potion started to sizzle and Cassiopeia quickly grabbed her ladle. She stirred counterclockwise four times just like Hermione said. The murky purple potion changed to a deep navy blue before it faded into a pretty shade of azure. Cassiopeia smirked triumphantly as she set down her ladle and looked at the shocked faces of her peers.
