Willa put her paper in Professor Stine's mailbox right after class, almost walking into Dick on her way out. His eyes widened and he stepped to the side. Except she stepped to the same side so they did an awkward little dance until he could get past her.
"Hi."
"Hi."
They hadn't seen much of each other since last week, but that didn't mean he had been completely absent from Willa's mind. She played the night over and over, cringing at how dumb she had come off. And yet... she didn't regret the night.
Dick placed his paper on top of Willa's then joined her in walking out of the building. "How are-" they both started then stopped. Willa looked away. This was awkward.
"How are you?" Willa asked after a second.
"Good. You?"
"Good." They walked in silence for another minute.
"Where are you headed?" Dick asked.
"To meet Abby and Chris. You?"
"One more class then I'm headed home."
"All the way to Wayne Manor? Isn't that a waste of gas?"
Dick smiled, "I have an apartment near here."
"Oh." Willa's cheeks turned red. So stupid, the thought, of course he didn't still live at home. They stopped in front of the dining hall, both a little unsure what to do now. Willa kicked the pavement with the toe of her shoe. "I'll see you around?"
"Yeah."
Willa turned to walk into the cafeteria but stopped at the last minute. Don't be a baby, she thought to herself and spun around, jumping back slightly when she almost ran into Dick's chest. He had turned back around too.
"Would you-" they both started then stopped, looking at the ground awkwardly.
"Would you..." Dick started but didn't really seem to know where to go from there.
"Yeah," Willa answered, not able to stop smiling. It seemed the same thing was happening to Dick, which was cute.
"Yeah?"
"Yeah."
"Uh, cool."
"The coolest."
"I'll text you?"
"I'll be waiting." Then Willa actually started moving to the dining hall entrance, looking back once more to wave, feeling the familiar excitement when Dick was still standing there, watching her walk inside. He waved then went off to class as the door closed behind Willa.
