Chapter 7: Teamwork!

[Y/N POV]

Barbara: You're getting so close Y/N! Please don't give up!

I was laid down on the grass after falling off my broom for the five hundredth time and was just staring up at the sky.

Diana: Maybe we should take a break. You've taken quite a beating Y/N.

My back was starting to get a bit sore as I turned my head and nodded at Diana.

The three girls were all in their training gear cheering me on and giving me tips on how to fly on my broom.

Diana: We don't want to cause any unnecessary damage. There's no need to rush getting you in the sky. As I said, the race is only teams of three.

Hannah: But can't Y/N just ride with one of us and carry the baton? Surely they would allow that.

Diana: I can check with the headmistress but still assume that Y/N won't be taking part.

I zoned out while Diana was speaking. Just staring up into the clear blue sky and watching the birds fly over really gave me an opportunity to clear my mind.

Diana: I'll be taking my leave now. I suggest that you all do the same. But I will not stop you from continuing if you wish Y/N.

I heard Diana walk away and lifted my head up to look at Hannah and Barbara.

Hannah: Do you wanna continue Y/N? Or...

Y/N: I'll be fine. Just give us a moment. I'll be right with you.

Hannah: Ok well I'm gonna go and catch up with Diana. Don't take too long~.

I watched Hannah skip away after Diana and turn to Barbara who was still stood there playing with her fingers.

Y/N: You going Barbara? Or are you staying out here with me?

She looked at me and shuffled her way closer to me and sat down on the floor beside me.

Barbara: I-I h-hope you don't mind. I-I just wanted to stay out here with you a bit longer.

Y/N: Fine with me.

I look at my broom and sigh deeply.

Y/N: You can be honest with me Barbara.

Barbara: H-Huh?!

Y/N: If I suck at doing this then you can just tell me! You don't have to say I'm getting close because we are friends.

Barbara: Y/N...I say it because you genuinely are getting close! There is a long way to go but you are really getting so close!

She puts her arms around me which I had gotten used to by now. Especially when sleeping.

The last two nights though...I had been sleeping a lot better. Her presence really soothes me.

Y/N: If you're being genuine, then thank you. I shouldn't assume that you were doing it just to make me happy.

Barbara: I mean I AM saying it because I want to see you happy, but you really are doing a great job! Keep it up!

She lays her head on my shoulder and I look at her. A smile spreads across her face as I turn myself around and return the hug.

Y/N: Y-you've been a good friend to me Barbara. I know we didn't get off to the best of starts, but I'm glad that especially you, me and Hannah could all start a fresh.

Barbara: I-I'm really glad too.

She began to blush quite a lot and took a deep breath before looking at me dead in the eyes.
