chapter forty five
「 when they disappear 」
♱
EVERYTHING HAPPENED SO swiftly that she couldn't even talk to Lily's parents as she was shoved into the fireplace, an Auror shouting her location before he threw the floo powder. Her vision blurred and she arrived in one of the offices at Hogwarts, she let out a small cough before stepping out of the fireplace. It was a rather dingy office and not one she'd been in before. Lined with sketches of mystical creatures and cluttered with random mannequins that they practised magic in, she didn't have to look at the women in the room to know who it belonged to. And when she noted that Jinky wasn't alone, rather with a woman that was exactly like her but was much shorter and rounder in a figure. They must have been sisters.
"Miss Westbrook, what an unpleasant surprise." The woman hissed, looking her over. "Back from the hospital, I presume?" Yes, they were even similar in personality from the way that her sister snarled at Eleanor.
"Hospital? Whatever for?" Her sister prompted in an irritable high pitch tone that went right through the blonde. When you think things couldn't possibly get worse, the universe always finds a way to come get you.
"A certain muggleborn was sent to the hospital. An unfortunate incident. Said someone lost their temper and hurt the poor girl." Jinky explained in a condescending tone, emphasising strongly on Lily's blood purity. But then she turned to face Elle, staring her directly in the eyes. "Oh, that someone was you." She smiled grimly at Elle. "I'm surprised they let you roam around."
"You're a danger to everyone here." Her sister added, aggressively.
"I'm sorry, who are you?" Eleanor turned to the sister, raising a brow at her which earned the girl a scoff.
"You are to be respectful to your superiors, Miss Westbrook." Jinky cut in and it took everything in Eleanor not to laugh.
"I am Dolores Umbridge." She snapped, glaring at her but Eleanor still seemed unbothered. "And I am Head of the Improper Use of Magic Office."
"Watch your words, Miss Westbrook," Jinky added with a smirk. That soon faded upon seeing Eleanor's smile. "You know I can get you locked up! I should've had your mother in there before she created you. An abomination." She added, clearly irritated by Eleanor being so unphased. Only a few months ago had Jinky been riling Eleanor up over the simplest truths.
The blonde said nothing, grabbing some floo powder from the pot by the fireplace. She had to get out of there. McGonagall wouldn't mind, she was expecting Eleanor back for a while. There's someone she had to go visit, possibly for the last time.
"Where are you going!" Jinky protested in disgust, running forward to catch the girl's arm. The woman pulled Eleanor tightly, revealing the blistering burn on the palm of her hand. A smirk pulled on her lips as she examined the details, like she knew exactly what it was from. That's because she did. "I knew you were one like her. Repelled by its dark magic. I'm surprised it took you so long to get it back. Not so smart, are you?"
"What are you talking about?" Eleanor remarked, acting dumbly. She knew what this was about, the quiet hissing of the locket blared in her ears, reminding her that it was there. But Jinky said nothing, just that smug smirk remained on her lips.
