Things you'll find in this chapter and what they are:
*FortHill is the town name in Oregon where Lisa and her family moved to
——————-
Dad's voice rang through the room as he read the morning newspaper after eating breakfast and I could hear a spark of interest rising in his voice about the FortHill's festival happening tonight at the fair. Knowing him, we would plan a whole bunch of activities to do before the festival tonight like we used to do back in Seattle when an important event would occur and he would push me to go with the next door neighbour. Thing is, I don't know who lives next to me since we were too busy settling in to even visit and I wasn't sure if there was someone my age living there.
"I don't feel like going. School is out for today and I was planning on sleeping after breakfast ." I said to my dad. I knew he would disapprove and I knew my mom would follow along his proposal even if she didn't feel like going out either, but I honestly wanted to stay in to continue reading Emily's diary. It has been a while since I opened that book.
"No, we are going and that's final."
"We'll invite Mrs and Mr Wang's daughter." My mom replied, standing over the table as she's clearing it. "They have a daughter who goes to your school. Her name is Chloe."
I don't know who Chloe is and frankly, I didn't care at all. As long as she knows who Emily is and what has been happening to her is all that matters. Chloe has to know since she lives right next door.
"Alright, I'll come."
The looks my parents gave to each other was enough for me to giggle. Confused yet relieved that I didn't cause an outburst like I usual do when it came to something I disagreed with. As much as I didn't want to go out and see what this town has to offer, if it means I could find out what the heck is going on around here, then I'm alright with it. Hopefully Chloe complies.
The loud sound of people echoed through the streets along with music blasting from the speakers and I could feel the car vibrating with the beat of Uptown Funk. We weren't that far away from the fair and yet, we could still hear the chatters of people and the loud yells of the game attendants.I could feel the whiff of popcorn and hot dogs making its way in the car, through the opened windows and I could hear Chloe humming next to me as she breathes in the delicious smell. We haven't spoken yet and it feels like she's trying the best she can to distance herself from me as if I was contagious. I would constantly try to get her attention but failed miserably. Trying every question that came across my mind, even the ones related to Emily, but she just kept staring at me with such cold eyes at the mention of her name.
I guess this will be harder than I thought.
We parked at the parking lot next to the tall iron fence covered with vines and bushes bordering the fair, separating the lot from the perfect green grass. I could see a little bit through the small holes of the fence and noticed how many people made their way through the activities. Somehow, I was shocked that such a small town can hold so many people. And I could see most of the students from my school playing the carnival games, laughing at their friends for missing a shot at the blue balloons stuck on the wall or even congratulating them for winning the big prize that they've been sweating for.
