"Charity event?"

"Yes."

Why would you want to do something so troublesome that even the imperial family doesn't want to do?
Charles leans in closer.

No way.

He narrows his brows to a sudden thought.

Are you trying to run away?

Of course, from a general point of view, charity events and fleeing are not related at all, but these days, he's worried that she's being too quiet, not even asking for a divorce.

In addition, he asked her to go to the capital with him.

'I do not like it.'

Rejected.

It's been awhile since I've been on edge, but I can't believe you're doing such a useless thing.

Somehow, I couldn't shake the thought that her charity event is to make alimony instead of asking for it.

"... "

Edgar nods, making eye contact with Charles, who has nothing to say.

His embarrassing heart seems to say, 'I understand her absurdity a hundred and a thousand times.'

Charles then corrects his expression and puckers his eyebrows together.

Should I be impressed with your decision to waste money very effectively?

"The impression seems to be that there's a high cost to sterilize milk for the benefit of the young people, who will each receive 1 bottle."

"... "

Of course, he thinks Abella is doing a very good job at what she does.

But for Charles, who knows the beginning and the now—Is that enough to be admired?

At the same time, he feels that things seem to be getting bigger, growing against her will.

And that, Abella is dead set against.

You must be having a headache.

The thought of Abella sitting on the sofa and pulling out her hair makes him laugh.

"I—"

"What?"

"Are you laughing?"

"... "

"If you don't mind, can I ask you to share which part is funny?"

Edgar asks very seriously.

"Sometimes I want to make you laugh, but I can't figure out what you like."

"... "

"But this time I think I'm making you laugh..."

"Get out."

However, Charles tosses out his earnest plea and turns toward Curtis, who stands behind him.

"Are you saying that the charity event will be held at the garden party in a few days?"

"Yes."

"There's going to be more than one or two things to care about, so take good care of it with Ergel."

"Yes, Your Grace."

"She's not familiar with that culture. Keep Evangeline from fumbling it."

"Yes."

Evangeline said she would greet her friends, so he couldn't stop it, but frankly, when she brought up the banquet, he knew she had other intentions.

However, Abella will easily overcome it with her fighting spirit.

It's not like she doesn't know Evangeline's intentions.

"Then, next on the schedule."

He pinches in between the brows and shut his eyes tightly due to fatigue.

"It's me again."

Edgar raises his hand while he holds the papers tightly in his arms.

Charles frowns.

Edgar looks like a leech that keeps sticking even after he pulls him off.

"Are you still here?"

"I still have a lot to report. For example, His Majesty Kyle's movement."

"What?"

Charles, who sensitively reacts to Kyle's name, raises his head.

"I think he's going to have an engagement ceremony with Lady Abigail."

Edgar puts the report down in front of Charles and quickly steps back as if he fears an unforeseen death.

"... I know that his engagement with Evangeline hasn't ended yet."

Even though it seems that Charles doesn't have any affection for Evangeline, there is a huge difference between ignoring his own family and having them being ignored by others.

"Yes, so if you come up to the capital this time—"

"What if I don't go up?"

"... What?"

"What were you going to do if I didn't go up? Would you have waited the whole time?"

"Well, I don't know."

"... "

Charles presses down on his temple, feeling bad.

Of course, it's the imperial family's business, so it isn't a matter that he can say much in regards to the engagement and marriage.

Frankly, he's not interested in whether or not Kyle's engaged to another lover.

But this is...

"It's rude."

Yes, it's a matter of courtesy.

It's a marriage between Evangeline and Kyle that has been established from a very young age. They were even verbally confirmed to be engaged by the family members.

"I can't believe I'm hearing this."

"..."

Edgar paces back one more step at Charles' fading tone.

"It's a situation where His Majesty Kyle's exercising his power."

"..."

"His Majesty is making a declaration that he would establish a Crown Prince, regardless of Diago's choice..."

"So, he wants to abandon Diago's choice..."

Charles speaks in a cold voice.

"Yes."

Edgar nods, further fanning his anger.

"It seems that the power of Diago isn't needed."

That's why he's unilaterally breaking up his relationship with Evangeline like this.

With a long sigh, Charles' cool gaze is fixed on the front page of Edgar's report as his hand curls then releases.

To be honest, Charles doesn't like the Diago's curse. However, he thinks that it's rather ugly to call it a curse.

I have to think differently.

He taps on the desk with his finger and twists the corners of his mouth upward.

"What about Philip Farhan?"

"Yes, I think Philip Farhan was trying to establish a close relationship with His Majesty Kyle."

"Maybe he's mindful of his loss. Hahaha."

Charles shakes his head and laughs absurdly.

This time, both Curtis and Ledin move away from him by a couple of steps because they know exactly what that laugh means.

He's about to explode.

"It looks like he wants to oust me."

He looks at Edgar as he straightens his neck, erasing his distorted expression.

"Ah!"

Edgar slams his palm down as if a thought has come to him belatedly with his eyes wide open.

"But, Abella-nim is not at all involved in this part."

"... "

"After having someone following and eavesdropping on Baron Farhan, it seems that he intended to use Abella-nim thoroughly and then throw her away."

Edgar laughs brightly, as if Charles' very fortunate.

"If His Majesty Kyle is crowned as Crown Prince, your loss will be obvious. Until then, it seems that he was using Abella-nim and will jump ship once it's your dismissal. Isn't that fortunate? Hahaha."

Charles' not sure what's fortunate, but Edgar looks around, laughing without notice.

"This idiot."

Ledin, who's been covering his face with one hand, shakes his head and goes.

"I'll just go out."

Curtis then walks out of the office.

Only Edgar, who acts like he's on drugs, is smiling like he doesn't know why.

"Isn't that really good news?"

At Edgar's immature expression, Ledin only clicks his tongue, looking between him and Charles.

Edgar shrugs and stares at Charles, still unable to grasp the mood.

Charles still looked up at him coldly.

"I see."

After a while, Charles gets up from his seat and nods.

However, despite the very good news that Edgar gave, Charles' movement toward the console with a hardened expression.

"Isn't that what you've been worried about?"

Edgar tilts his head as if he's puzzled.

"I am very glad that Abella is not involved—"

"Yes."

At Edgar's words, Charles nodded and filled the glass with alcohol.

"I am."

As Edgar said, it's true that I was worried that Abella was involved in Kyle and Farhan's backhanded plan. Maybe he's getting ready to hit back in front of me.

To be honest, I had doubts. That didn't mean that I wanted Abella's family to take advantage of her, who knew nothing.

I feel dirty.

Rather, if she had been involved in their backdoor deal...

Yes, I wouldn't have felt so dirty as I do now.

I thought I could understand her and say, 'It would have been difficult to get your feet out of your family affairs.'

When I look at the current situation, I feel sorry toward her.

I didn't know you were being treated like that.

"Hah—"

It's a strange feeling even when I think about it myself.

Charles wipes his mouth and fills his glass with an amber liquid.

"Your Excellency."

Edgar calls out to him because he can't understand what made him so angry.

"Okay. Get out."

Throwing him out, Charles goes to the balcony in search of fresh air. He walks at a slow pace and sits on the railing, unaffected by hard liquor.

He then looks down, sighing.

"Leo!"

He hears Abella's in time and turns his head unknowingly.

The sunlight is quite hot during the day, and Abella, who walks without a parasol, is waving and smiling.

She moves her hand so excitedly that he doesn't know if she is asking him to come or telling him that she's here.

"I'm Abella Farhan."

That night.

Abella's face as she accepted the contract that he put out comes to mind.

"I don't care. Your Grace."

With a hazy smile, her face from back then doesn't resemble her face with her bright laughter now.

T/N: First of all, I love when all of Charles' friends gather in one room with him because they exhibit such dumbass energy lol

Secondly, we're getting Charles' perspective on their first meeting and it explains more about why he doesn't want to divorce her and why he sorta leave her alone. I do like it when we get a pov from Charles because he really isn't as dumb as he acts sometimes haha

Lastly, when is this Kyle gonna appear? He's just taking his sweet time being a slimy bastard, isn't he? Lol
