As Jungkook's horse approached the grand entrance of the palace, he gently pulled on the reins to bring it to a stop. Without hesitation, he dismounted first and reached up to help Taehyung down. His hands lingered on Taehyung’s waist, steadying him as their eyes met.
"Are you alright, Taehyung?" Jungkook asked softly, his voice laced with concern.
Taehyung gave a small nod, though the redness in his eyes betrayed the sadness he tried to hide. "I'm fine, Your Highness," he murmured, his voice barely above a whisper.
Jungkook studied him for a moment longer before Taehyung attempted a weak smile. It didn’t quite reach his eyes, but he still said, "My prince, I should go now. Thank you for the ride. Please take care."
Jungkook nodded, his expression soft but serious. "Take care, Taehyung. If you ever need anything, remember that I’m here."
With a small nod, Taehyung turned away and walked toward the servants’ quarters. Jungkook remained still, watching his retreating figure until he disappeared behind the palace walls.
Letting out a quiet sigh, Jungkook finally made his way inside the palace. However, his steps slowed as he glanced back in the direction Taehyung had gone, his mind still lingering on him.
"Jungkook."
Hearing his name, he turned to see his mother approaching, her expression both gentle and curious. "What are you doing here, my dear? Is something troubling you?" the Queen asked with a warm smile.
Jungkook straightened, quickly masking his emotions. "No, Mother. I was just walking around," he said casually. "I felt a little restless in my room."
The Queen tilted her head slightly, observing him for a moment before nodding. "I see. Well, if you need company, you know you can always come to me."
Jungkook smiled at her words, though his thoughts remained elsewhere—still lingering on a certain servant with tear-streaked eyes.
The Queen gave a knowing nod, pretending she hadn’t noticed Taehyung riding into the palace with Jungkook just moments ago. "Well, Jungkook, there's something important I need to discuss with you. Come with me," Hara said, watching her son closely.
Jungkook merely nodded and started walking beside her, his head lowered, lost in thoughts of Taehyung. Meanwhile, the Queen cast a subtle glance over her shoulder toward the hallway where Taehyung had disappeared. A smirk played on her lips before she turned forward again.
As they walked through the grand corridor, the Queen’s expression became serious. "Jungkook, we need to discuss your future," she stated, her tone calm yet firm. "Your father and I have been considering alliances through marriage. It is essential for the strength of our kingdom."
Jungkook felt his chest tighten at her words, but he forced himself to remain composed. "Mother, I understand the necessity of alliances," he said, his voice even. "But I am not ready for marriage."
The Queen halted abruptly and turned to face him, her sharp eyes scanning his face. "Is this because of Taehyung?" she asked, her voice unwavering.
Jungkook’s eyes widened slightly at the unexpected question, but he quickly schooled his expression. "Mother… I—" He faltered, unable to find the right words under her piercing gaze. Instead, he fell silent and followed her quietly.
