Trouble

When he first took me here to meet his friends  I was a little hesitant. I knew that they weren't the people my moms wanted to see me with, but they immediately accepted me and Nate liked them so I did too. And it wasn't like they were bad people. They were a couple years older but all at our school and not from shady backgrounds or anything. They had already been there for a while when we joined them so they were a bit ahead. With Nate's arm around my shoulder we sat down with them on the grass, it wasn't too chilly yet. "Want some Sof?", Hailey welcomed me immediately. "Sure.", I agreed and she handed me the joint she was smoking. I knew this was damn risky. I was only 15 and we were in public but what was I supposed to do? They all did it and it actually made me feel calm which I rarely did. One of us always had an eye out for cops and they rarely came to the park anyways. I inhaled deeply and finally was able to relax. I hadn't smoked weed that often before and now was definitely more risky than other days because I was supposed to be home in just a few hours but I honestly didn't really care, it made me feel peaceful and company let me block out the thoughts I had whenever  I was alone.

I could have sworn we were only there for a few minutes when my phone suddenly went off. It took a while for me to realise and find it but I finally saw my Mamas face and name on the screen. Why was she calling me? I didnt even think much further but simply picked up. "Hello?" "Sofia it is half past seven where the hell are you ? You were supposed to be home half an hour ago." It was only now that I realised what was happening, I paused. "Uhhh." "Where are you?". Mama sounded serious. "I'm sorry I forgot the time, I am coming now, don't worry I'll be home in a few minutes." "Sofia Sloan Torres you are telling me where you are right now! We are coming to get you, I don't want to hear anything else." Nate looked at me confused. I knew I took way too long to answer her but I couldn't think as fast as I normally would and I didn't know what to tell her without getting into more trouble.  "I am at the park near school, you don't need to get me." "Oh I think we do Sofia, come to the main entrance right now, we are there in 10 minutes." And she hung up. Mortified, I looked at Nate. "I am in trouble. They are here in 10 minutes." "What? Why?", he asked. "I was supposed to be home half an hour ago and I think she kind of sensed that something was up. I need to get rid of the damn smell. Panicking I stood up and immediately regretted it, I was dizzy. Of course I was, I hadn't eaten today and was still high.
Nate held me up and helped look for the perfume I packed earlier. We took a few steps away from the others, shook my flannel in the fresh air and packed it in the bag before spraying me down with the perfume and putting on the spare jacket I brought. I took a sip from the coke light i brought and finally stepped towards Nate again. "Do you smell something?" I asked and he chuckled. "Do you really think I could tell right now?" Instead he gave me a kiss. "Let's get you to the entrance, I don't want you to get in trouble and not be able to come here anymore." My judgement was so clouded  I hadn't even thought about that before. I was in so much trouble if they figured out what was going on, all they knew was that I was at the mall with friends from school, instead I was in a random park, high and with a boy they didn't know.
When that thought struck me I stopped. "No, you need to stay back, they cannot see you with me!" "Do you think they will be happier if you are at a park alone ?" "No but they will think you are a bad influence or something, please Nate, I know them better than you. It's best if they don't see you." He sighed. "Okay but I will bring you far enough so I can see you and know you're with them, it's getting sketchy here." I smiled at him. "I Love you, you know that?" "I know that and I love you too." Again we kissed before moving on, the entrance was in sight now and I stopped again. "You stay here, they will be here any minute. "Call me when you can and tell me what happened! Love you." He called after me when I made my way to the entrance where I already saw our car pulling up a few meters before I was there. I was still feeling a bit cloudy. This was going to be hard to cover up this time, I was already in trouble for being late and not being where I told them I was, if they knew I was high right now that would be my last day in freedom.
