I almost shriek hearing the gunshot. No! He shot Lee, or did he miss? Lee is still standing right in front of me. “What the hell are you doing Carlo?” Lee shouts at his step brother who is still holding a gun. Then Carlo looks at the gun as if it was his first time holding it. 

“I was joking,” he said scratching his hair. “I don’t know how to use this thing.”

“Well, damn you! You might have attracted the attention of the kidnappers.” Less says looking at me. “Are you okay?” I did nod not speaking a word. But I am still doubtful. I am sure that the kidnapper’s voice is Carlo’s. Or is it? But I know the voice is somehow familiar. Who is it? Angus? I am so confused about what is happening. 

We hear footsteps coming and they are coming fast. I panic so Lee comforts me while guiding me to where Carlo is leading him. It is a little whole they made from the window of the house where I was locked in.

“Come on hurry!” Carlo whispers and then Lee let me pass through the hole before he went through it. Then there we find ourselves in the middle off the forest. It is a house in the middle of the forest.

“This is part of the land owned by our grandfather.” Lee says almost knowing the questions in my head. Lee holds me on the hand making sure I don’t get lost.

“We should hurry,” Carlos says and that is when we hear the kidnappers talking.

“The girl is gone!” One shouts.

“Gone! How can she be gone…”

“Shit! They tricked us! Find her, she can’t be too far.”

We run fast and hid behind the trees when they find the hole that we used to escape. Our pace becomes fast but I can barely keep up with Lee and Carlo. Carlo is even worried about me, glancing at me every minute.

“Are you okay?” Carlo asks me. “I think we need to rest for Cassie.”

Lee looks at me and then agrees. “But we have to find somewhere to rest. We need to find a place where they won’t be able to find us.”

“I know just the place,” Carlo says. “It’s a mini cave near the river. It’s just right in front of us. We were supposed to pass through it during the race.”

“Yeah! I remember that. But won’t they find it,” Lee is still doubtful.
