6:30 p.m.
3 Days, 11 Hours, and 5 Minutes Later
(Y/N) sucked in a slow, calculated breath, her body tense as she stared down her rifles scope, eyeing the whitetail deer that was eating some grass across the over grown field. Letting out a low whistle, (Y/N) caught the attention of Ellie and Joel who were a few yards away, hiding by the forests edge. Joel looked over at Ellie, who was hiding a few meters from him, before nodding at her, (Y/N)'s whistle signalling that she was about to take the shot.
Ellie nodded back and pulled out her pistol, putting the silencer, that (Y/N) had given to her in Sioux City, on before silently turning the safety off. Joel did the same and let out a low whistle from his hiding space, informing (Y/N) that they were ready when she was. (Y/N) nodded to herself, putting her finger on the trigger as the deer raised her head, looking around as a bird flew overhead.
Bracing herself, (Y/N) aimed her rifle at the Doe, the crosshairs centering in on her heart before she pulled the trigger, firing the shot at the Doe. The deer whined in pain as the bullet lodged itself into her chest, blood spewing from the gun wound. Ellie and Joel quickly got to work, rushing towards the deer as it started to run towards their hiding spots in hopes of fleeing from her attacker.
(Y/N) pushed herself up and onto her knees, smiling widely as Ellie and Joel successfully put the deer out of it's misery. Looking over at (Y/N), Ellie smiled back at her, giving her a big thumbs up before nodding her head. (Y/N) sent a thumbs up back to her before standing back up, reloading her rifle and slinging it back over her shoulder as she jogged over to them, "That worked flawlessly." She commented with a grin.
"We're gonna be eating good tonight!" Ellie cheered, putting her pistol away as (Y/N) kneeled down beside the deer, checking it's pulse quickly to make sure that the deer was actually dead. Joel chuckled and shook his head, getting help from (Y/N) as he picked up the deer, draping it's body over his shoulder, "This'll last us a good couple days until we get to Milwaukee."
(Y/N) nodded in agreement as they started to walk through the forest, heading towards the small camp that they had set up under a willow tree. Pushing through the vine-like leaves, (Y/N) motioned for Joel to set the Doe down beside the fire that they had made earlier before pulling out her hunting knife, kneeling down beside the Doe as Joel layed it down in front of her.
Flipping the deer onto its back, (Y/N) took her knife and began to skin it, cutting around the bends of its legs first before dragging her knife across the top of it's chest, and its lower belly, connecting her bottom and top cuts together. Ellie winced, looking away for a moment as (Y/N) cut a long incision down it's chest and belly before starting to pull the skin back, cutting stubborn pieces off with her knife, "God, I hate that part." She gagged, watching as (Y/N) nonchalantly cut up the deer, handing pieces of meat to Joel who put them over the fire.
