There are lots of things to be done during in preparation for Christmas, but yet you only sat lazily on the sofa, flipping through the channels. Your girlfriend, Olivia, was running through the house, hanging light and decorating the Christmas tree. There's no point in celebrating Christmas though. Ever since your mother passed away, Christmas haven't been the same. And celebrating Christmas only makes it hurt more, remembering that she's isn't there anymore. So you choose not to celebrate, in hope that the pain would go away.
"Y/n?" Olivia called out, you looked up from the TV. "Can you help me with something?"
"Depends on what it is!" You called back, glancing up briefly. The moment your eyes landed on the bare Christmas tree, you knew what Olivia wants your help with. You groaned and flopped back onto the sofa. "Do I have to?"
"Yes," Olivia rolled her eyes as she made her way over, sitting down beside you. "Come on, it'll be fun."
You sighed, looking into Olivia's hopeful eyes. "Fine. I doubt it'll be fun."
Olivia didn't seem to care about your last statement, letting out an adorable grin and grabbing your hand, pulling you toward the tree. As much as it hurt to do this, you couldn't help but let out a small smile at Olivia's excitement. You sat by the tree, looking through the decorations. Olivia was excitingly picking up different ornaments, placing them on the tree one by one.
You just sat there, staring at her beautiful features. This was the first time the two of you spent Christmas together and you weren't brave enough to bring up your mom yet. Sure, she knows that your dad is a fucking idiot and married an evil money stealing bitch after your mom passed away but she never asked about when it had happened.
You still remembered the last Christmas you have spent with your mother, how she'd promised she'll be back soon but you never saw her face again.

"Come here, Sunshine," your mom smiled brightly, her warm blue eyes studying yours. You were already seventeen but spending Christmas with your family is still a must-do. Your mom always makes Christmas more enjoyable. Your dad smiled from the side, holding a camera in hand. Your mom handed you the star that belongs to the top of the tree. You looked over, slightly unsure. "Go ahead."
You slowly reached up and placed the star on the top of the tree, smiling satisfied when you moved back to admire your work. A flash brightened up the room slightly and you chuckled when you see your dad pointing the camera to your face. You leaned against your mom, who wrapped her arms around you, as another picture was snapped.
"Give me a warning next time, dad," you shook your head amusingly. "The flashes almost blinded me."
Your dad rolled his eyes, nudging you playfully. "You're just sensitive."
"Did someone used up the flour?" Your mom called from the kitchen, making you and your dad shared a look before coming to a silent agreement. The two of you bolted for the backdoor, but your mom was waiting there, her arms crossed. "Did you two perhaps have something to do with this?"
"No! Of course not," you smiled innocently, giving your dad a pointed look. "I think dad has something to do with this though."
"It was Y/n!" Your dad protested, making you gasped at him, lightly shoving him. Your mom stared at the two of you amusingly before shaking her head and rolling down her sleeves, grabbing her bag by the door.
"It's fine, I'll just swing by the store," she smiled at the two of you, placing a kiss on your forehead and kissing your dad on the lips. You fake gaged, making your mom laughed, ruffling your hair. "Do you two need anything?"
