Cassiopeia looked at herself scrutinizingly in the mirror, getting ready to meet up with Chance, a smile twinkling on her heart-shaped face. She gazed at the lacy, lavender purple dress that Auntie Estelle had set out for her in awe. Brushing her wavy hair over her shoulder, Cassiopeia started questioning her own decision.
He will hate you if he finds out that you are a witch, Her mind told her.
No, She argued back, no, he won’t.
He will, The voice in her mind bickered with her.
“He won’t.” She hissed angrily.
There was something about Chance that made her want to love him.
He was perfect for her; mysterious yet immensely kind and loving.
Like Rhys, She thought, It seems that I have a type.
She stared at herself in the mirror one last time before pushing her thoughts to one side and running off to the orchard to meet up with her could be future lover.
“Oh my!” Cassiopeia heard Bianca gasp, “You look stunning, Cassi. Prince Charming is sure one lucky guy!”
“Cwathi!” Fawn squealed, “You’re bootiful!”
“Beautiful, darling, not bootiful.” Bianca corrected her off-spring.
“Thank you, both of you. You both look gorgeous too.” Cassiopeia hugged and kissed them on their cheeks.
“Always complimentive, aren’t you dear?” Auntie Estelle smirked, “Though, they’re both right. You look breathtaking.”
“Thanks, Auntie Estelle!” Cassiopeia giggled.
“Off you go, Cassi. Wouldn’t want to keep him waiting, would we?” Bianca said playfully.
Cassiopeia stuck her tongue out at her and ran off, not wanting to be late.
She sprinted past countless numbers of trees, houses and people, clutching her skirts in her hands.
She arrived in the orchard, exactly one minute early.
“You’re late.” Chance smirked.
“Nope, I’m a minute early.” Cassiopeia argued.
“Whatever.” He rolled his eyes.
She found it funny that they were acting like they had known each other forever evn though they had just met the day before.
Chance slid down the hill up to her but slipped, sending them both tumbling down the hill.
Cassiopeia laughed hysterically, making Chance laugh with her as her laugh was infectious.
They stared into each other’s eyes and came closer and closer until she could feel his breath on her lips.
He kissed her softly and ......................................................she felt nothing!
Cassiopeia pulled away, breathing deeply.
“Did I do something wrong?” Chance looked worried.
“I’m sorry.” She ran as fast as her legs could take her, away from him.
She felt a cold hand on hers.
“We could do a lot with a pretty girl.” A scary-looking man croaked out.
He was a thin, wiry man with bushy eyebrows and growing beard, holding a cane in his hands that had talons for nails He had matted blonde hair that was thin and turning grey. His eyes were a cold, dark black and showed no sign of sensitivity or tenderness. He looked at her coldly, scrutinizing her with a simple glance.
Her mind screamed, RAPIST ALERT!!!!
The man looked her up and down, his eyes lingering on her breasts and butt.
That just confirmed her thoughts.
What should I do?, She thought, panicked, Run screaming bloody murder?
The man smiled a gruesome smile, allowing her to get a peek at his rotting teeth.
Cassiopeia felt as if she was going to be sick.
“Let’s have some fun.” He hissed gruffly.
“Leave me alone!” Cassiopeia yelled.
He got closer and pinned her against the hard, concrete wall, his hands groping her butt.
She could smell the scent of his stale breath, sickening her.
Cassiopeia screamed, almost deafening herself, “I’ll tell you one more time! Leave me the hell alone!”
“I know you want to, darling.” He said in a wanna-be husky voice.
She screamed loudly.
Her powers made the man think that an illusion was raping him until he died as he did to countless women.
His skin became dust and all that was left of him was his carcas.
“You’re a witch!” Chance’s surprised yet scared voice came.
“Chance....” She tried to comfort him.
“Get away from me, witch!” He yelled, knowing that he would attract a lot of attention and from passers-by.
“What is wrong, young man?” A mob of angry villagers yelled, each one competing to be louder than the rest.
“This witch just killed an innocent, old man and now she’s coming after me!” Chance shouted, overreacting.
“Get her!” One of them shouted.
That was how Cassiopeia ended up in a cold, dark dungeon with nothing to eat except the rats or mice, which Cassiopeia refused to even think about doing.
She missed Auntie Estelle, Bianca, Fawn, Jinx and most of all, Rhys.
“Cassi!” She heard a small whisper, then a pitter patter of tiny feet.
“Jinx.” She mumbled half-heartedly.
“What did you do?” Jinx said sternly.
“I killed a man who was about to rape me and Chance saw me and told the whole village. It was only self-defence! Now, it’s likely that I’ll be hung tomorrow.” Cassiopeia said forlornly.
“I have to go but I’ll be back tomorrow with help.” Jinx said worriedly.
“Goodbye Jinx...” Cassiopeia smiled sadly.
“Don’t talk like that.” He snarled angrily.
“And Jinx?” She called out to him.
“Yes, Cassi?” He replied.
“Always remember that you were the best familliar and friend a witch could have.” She bid him farewell.
Jinx sped off, not looking back.
She fell asleep not long afterwards, her last thought being ‘I love you, Rhys.’
Rhys’s POV
I was awoken from a deep sleep by something small and fluffy jumping on top of me.
I growled, “Who dares wake the vampire king?!?!”
Then the recognisable, whiny voice of Cassiopeia’s familliar laughed and said, “Oh, so you’re a king now?”
I ignored his comment.
“Why are you here?” I asked groggily.
“Cassiopeia got found out. She got caught killing a man who was going to rape her. She will be hanged at dawn by those filthy humans.” Jinx hissed out angrily.
My whole world stopped when I heard those words.
“You are the only one who can save her.” Jinx said, a look of worry crossing his furry face.
The familliar had a point.
My mate could die in a few hours.
The question was though..........................
WOULD I GET TO HER IN TIME?
