Cassiopeia felt immensely weakened from her week in the dungeons.

She had become much thinner and paler.

You could barely see any fat on her body, she was that thin!

“Come on, witch!” One of the guards shouted at her, dragging her to her doom.

Fear pulsated through Cassiopeia’s body, growing larger by the second.

She didn’t want to die.

She was too young to die!

Rhys’s POV

I used my vampire speed to take me to my mate.

My poor, sweet mate...

I arrived at the execution area of the village Cassiopeia was staying at; my black robes billowing behind me.

My eyes were a startling shade of fiery red.

You could see the golden flames in them; scorching anyone who dared look me in the eye.

“Sire!” I heard a middle-aged woman with bright red hair calling me.

She was clearly a witch, judging by the colour of her hair.

Most humans didn’t have red hair; only the ones with magicfolk ancestors did.

“Who are you, woman?” I said harshly, my eyes darkening.

The red-head looked unfazed by my anger.

“My name is Estelle. Cassiopeia is my close friend’s daughter. When I heard that that boy Cassiopeia was with told the village about her being a witch, I tried all I could to get her out of those dungeons but I simply couldn’t. I’m getting older, you know.”

My Cassi was with a boy!

When I found this boy I will rip him limb from limb.

At the same time, I was upset that she forgot about me when I thought about her everyday and she constantly pestered my dreams.

Was I not good enough for her?

Could she not wait for me?

I felt incredibly hurt, as if my heart had been taken right out of my chest and crumbled to dust in my mate’s petite hands.

As if sensing my heart break, the old woman consoled me, “She ran away when he kissed her and she didn’t feel anything. I bet he only told the village mob because he wanted revenge. Petty creatures, humans!”

My eyes turned a pitch black from my burning anger.

I growled, “Where can I find this incompetent fool?!?!”

“Cassiopeia wouldn’t want her mate to set the whole of human kind against vampires.”

“Do you not know who I am?” I thundered.

“Everyone knows the infamous King Rhys.” Estelle said, putting emphasis on the word ‘King’.

“Wait.......” I was confused, “How do you know that I’m Cassiopeia’s mate?”

“Every witch and wizard has a special power. Mine is future sight. That is how I knew that you would be coming.”

“I don’t know how to save her though.”

“I will replace Cassiopeia. You will take her back to your palace with Jinx.” Estelle explained her plan.

“I will help you get her out of the dungeons.” A new voice told me.
