Chapter Three: A Memory
Gandhi sat down on a dusty bed. "Jake?"
"Yeah?"
"Try to get some sleep."
Jake nodded, laying down on a bed. But there was no way he could fall back asleep. Not after tonight. Instead his mind dragged him off to a memory of exactly one year ago, when he first got to explore Camp Wright...
"What is this place?" Jake had asked. He couldn't decide what to look at. There were people appearing from no where, kids with wand-like things, girls lifting four hundred pounds like it was no problem...
"Camp Wright. Also known as Superhero Camp. Also known as camp for the Impossibles." Edward had shrugged.
"Woah! What's my superpower?" Jake had asked excitedly.
"Your dreams."
"My dreams...?"
"I'm going to be your mentor. I will teach you all you need to know, be your cabin leader- I'll even teach you how to avoid getting beat up by the camp jocks," Edward had laughed.
Jake had followed Edward to a place that read "Cabins". The walked through a gate made of vines, something Jake had never seen before. The first Cabin the saw was Cabin One. Jake had made a big fuss about the lightning and clouds, but Edward had shuffled him past and onto Cabin Two. That cabin had a purple tinge to it, and grey lines that created the illusion that something was shifting.
"Cabin One is where Jessica, or Miss Williams, stays. She's our camp leader. She can fly, she's good with a weapon and she's got a killer dog named Sparky. Don't get to close to it...
"Cabin Two here are the Travelers. They can teleport where they want, when they want." Edward had explained.
"Cool..." Jake had been in awe.
"Cabin Three," Edward'd gestured to a cabin painted red with soldiers on it, "are the Warriors. Try fight most of our combative battles. They are basically our soldiers."
Jake gulped, "Battles?"
Edward chuckled, "We are superheroes."
Cabin Four was a darker red with bright grey weights. "Let me guess, extremely strong?" Jake asked.
"Yep, our Jocks." Edward had nodded, "Cabin Five are the Healers, which is an explanatory name in itself." Cabin Five a dirty white, lines with empty medicine bottles.
"How many are there?" Jake had gulped.
"Twenty," Edward chuckled, "Moving on. Cabin Six are the Readers. They can read minds, yeah, creepy, I know, and they can telepathically transport any object. Cabin Seven are the Magicians. You ever heard of Harry Potter? Well, that's them. They can perform magic with wands. It's quite interesting actually, none of the rest of us can do it, but the six of them can..." Edward had trailed off, allowing Jake time to look over the cabins.
Six was a deep blue with a cartoon brain painted under the window. Seven was a plain brown, lined with brooms. Cabin Eight was a bright red with yellow shoes. Cabin Nine itself was strange, it was black. No images, nothing.
"Eight. Right they're the Speeds. Weird name, I know. But they just run incredibly fast. Cabin Nine? They're the Invisibles. They have the power to become invisible and make someone or something else become invisible as well as long as someone's touching them. " Edward continued as if he had never stopped. "Cabin Ten are called the Shifters. They have the ability to change into any form, as long as it's living."
Cabin Ten was a grey, different animals and faces disrupting the calm look of it. Cabin Eleven was a forest green with one thing. A cloud.
"This is us. The Dreamers." Edward had smiled, leading Jake inside.
"Aren't there more cabins?" Jake had asked immediately.
"Oh yeah, Cabin Twelve are the Tree-Huggers, but they prefer to be called, Planters. They basically can grow any kind of plant with a snap of their fingers. The Unluckies live in Cabin Thirteen. They have the gift of fire... But it's more of a curse than gift... Anyway, the Brainiacs are Cabin Fourteen. Basically, they're just super smart. The Airbenders are Cabin Fifteen. They deal with the wind and tornadoes and stuff. It's pretty cool." Edwards smiled. "Cabin Sixteen are the Waterbenders. They handle water, hurricanes and the like. Seventeen... Well they're the Tinkers. Lame name, I know. But they make every weapon in this camp. They are out artillery. Cabin Eighteen are the Hunters. They are amazing with a bow and arrow and hunt like no other. Nineteen are the Strechies. Also a not-so-cool name. They... Well... Stretch. They're flexible. Hence the name." Edward finished.
Jake had sat there in awe, before he realized, "Hey! You said there were twenty cabins!"
"There are," Edward had responded mysteriously.
"So, who's Cabin Twenty?" Jake had asked.
Edward hesitated, then whispered, "The Time Travelers. The only problem is, there are none. There was only one to begin with, but that was centuries ago. The cabin just sits there, empty. I guess it's to pay tribute..."
"Wow," Jake had whispered. "I think I'm gonna like it here."
"Jake?" A voice brought him back to reality. Tiffany stood over him, her eyes full of concern. "It's time to go to the Potion Room. You might want to put on your shirt."
